    The Per Diem Non-Secure Detention Counselor plays a vital role in ensuring the safety, well-being, and positive development of at-risk youth in a short-term residential detention facility. Responsible for supervising the daily activities of youth, the counselor provides a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment. The facility houses residents for short-term stays, during which staff ensure that all youth adhere to program schedules, maintain proper behavior, and participate in daily activities. In this dynamic environment, the counselor will work collaboratively with leadership to address any concerns and support the facility's mission to foster a safe and supportive space for youth during their stay. Qualifications This position is located in Bath, NY. Job Responsibilities • Account for welfare and well-being of youth at all times. Model appropriate behavior standards for youths. Must maintain visual sight of youth in the program. • Counsel youth on an individual and group basis to assist with adjustment/transition to the program. Ensure youth follow and participate in program schedules. Communicate any concerns with youth are brought to the attention of program leadership. • Assist with daily meal preparation. • Assist with security and safety of youth and facility. • Adheres to agency policies and procedures; follows and supports agency mission, vision and values including participating in internal surveys and data collection for continuous improvement initiatives. Job Requirements Minimum of High School/GED required. 1 year + experience working with youth and families required; Associates Degree can be substituted for the 1-year experience. (Human Services for related field) Experience working with at risk youth in detention/residential facility preferred. Successful completion of on-the-job training for Certification in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) and First Aid/CPR certification following on-the-job training. Must be able to work a flexible schedule with variable hours including day, evening, weekend, holiday and subject to call hours. Valid Driver's License, with acceptable driving history to the Agency Travel is required. Ability to coordinate and plan travel for visits and appointments in efficient manner. Ability to work with economically and culturally diverse population. Skills: Verbal and written communication skills.
