About the Role
The Petroleum FieldEngineer will play a key role in the design, permitting, execution, and performance monitoring of oil and gas well projects. Key Responsibilities
Design and engineer well projects, including drilling, workover, completion, and abandonment operations
Develop detailed project plans, vendor recommendations, and cost estimates
Prepare and submit regulatory permit applications (CalGEM, DOGGR, BLM, County)
Oversee field execution, monitor project performance, and troubleshoot issues
Conduct analyses of budgets, schedules, and safety metrics to ensure continuous improvement
Prepare technical reports, economic evaluations, and client-ready presentations
Coordinate communication among internal teams, clients, contractors, and regulators
Mentor field and project staff, promoting a culture of safety and accountability
Support leadership with project planning, proposals, and operational strategy initiatives
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering or a related field
2+ years of oil and gas industry experience, preferably with exposure to drilling, completions, or abandonment projects
Experience with California permitting or other regulated environments preferred
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Professional presence with the ability to interface effectively with clients and regulators
Self-motivated and adaptable with strong attention to detail
Valid driver's license and ability to travel to field sites

Role: As the Project Engineer, you'll turn real-world field challenges into elegant engineering solutions-bridging design, construction, and on-site execution to bring our next-generation energy-storage systems to life. Responsibilities:
Thorough characterization of existing infrastructure at potential installation sites to refine designs, installation procedures, and inform site selection
Technoeconomic modeling to optimize site selection and design selection

Operations and maintenance of installed devices as needed
Managing contractors/consultants as needed
Travel to vendors, customers, and installation sites (15-30%)

Requirements

Location
This job will based in Bakersfield. We plan to bring the engineering team into an office between May and December of 2026. The location of that office has not been finalized, but it will either be Los Angeles or Denver, and we may require 10-15% travel time to either of those office locations.

Job Description
Turner & Townsend is hiring an ambitious and self-starting Project Engineer to support our client by supporting core project coordination efforts across their project. This is a minimum of 4 day per week onsite support and reporting role for a minimum of 4 days per week, with the PE reporting directly to the client for construction project managers. The role is based in Tejon, Bakersfield.
Essential Job Functions:
Manage individual tasks throughout the construction process.
Transcribe meeting minutes and action items and drive each item to closure.
Ensure project compliance with project document controls and file specifications.
Administer project closeout specifications and associated turnover documentation.
Regular collaboration and coordination with client project team and contractor operatives.
Support application for payment and progress reporting processes.
Daily tasks include:
Request for information processing (logging, recording and reporting) to support review and sign off by others.
Change order administration (logging, recording and reporting) to support review and sign off by others.
Meeting coordination.
Administration of project observation reports.
Transition of close-out documentation to operations.
Duties:
Prepare agenda and documents for scheduled design engineering meetings and drive action items to close.
Assist client project managers in implementation of project specifications.
Prioritize input required from internal stakeholders and drive to meet scheduled timelines.
Assist project manager in preparing monthly financial updates and forecasts.
Facilitate page-turn reviews and capture comments with action items for the internal team.
Where applicable, work closely with Operations to coordinate work
Awareness of the importance of mission-critical facility operation.
Support the project commissioning team.
SOX control responsibilities may be part of this role, which are to be adhered to where applicable.
Additional duties as assigned from time to time by Management.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in construction management, or similar field, or equivalent experience.
A minimum of 2 years of experience as a Project Engineer in assisting or supervising construction projects of increasing complexity required.
Facility construction experience is preferred.
Experience in CSA (civil, structural, architectural) and MEP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing).
Construction management is a strong preference.
Good with numbers, technology, and web-based data platforms (MS Office skills essential).
Additional Information
The salary range for this full-time role is $90K-$120K per year. Ranges are determined by role and level and represent a good faith effort to provide a fair and equitable salary. This range is a reflection of base salary only, not of a total compensation package. Please note Turner & Townsend reserves the right to pay more or less than the posted range, depending on candidate's experience and qualifications.
