PURPOSE STATEMENT: Under direct and close supervision, performs a variety of standard engineering work involving the design, modification, development, maintenance and installation of utility and non-utility gas distribution systems. Responsibilities ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES: Plans, designs and develops related specifications for the installation, betterment or maintenance of gas systems for assigned projects. May also be required to prepare cost estimates. Assists Hawai'i Gas personnel in the interpretation of codes, regulations, and company standards as applied to new business projects, mains or services replacement or relocation and LPG installations. Provides technical assistance relating to gas systems and designs to architects, engineers, consultants, and developers. Reviews and assists in the evaluation of new business projects to ensure they are compliant with governing regulations and company standards; prepares and submits application for government approvals and fire permits. Establishes and maintains effective liaison with the Honolulu Fire Inspector. Reviews construction plans and proposals by outside agencies to mitigate any conflicts with the existing gas network. Provides consultation and assists in coordination with contractors working near buried gas facilities. Prepares response letters to requests for plan reviews from other utilities, contractors, architects and developers. Assists Manager in maintaining the Tank Management Program (TMP). Perform audits of facilities; process MOC submittals, update drawings and documentation. Assists in the preparation of standards, policies, and procedures to conform with federal and local codes and company standards. Keeps abreast of technological changes and developments in the industry and works with respective departments to implement viable changes.
