    BELL Construction is hiring for a Project Engineer to join our Heavy Highway/Civil team in Memphis, TN. The Project Engineer (PE) supports the Project Manager (PM) and Project Superintendent to facilitate a well-managed project. The PE works successfully with and responds promptly to requests from the PM to achieve goals and assists with the overall management and administration of projects, including pre-construction services, subcontractor management, RFI's, and the submittal process. Job Responsibilities Develops an understanding of construction safety practices and has the ability to stop work if unsafe conditions exist. Has a good grasp of construction terminology and a solid understanding of construction processes. Estimates CORs and assists in bidding, assembling an estimate, and subcontractor coordination. Understands all costs associated with a change request and aids the PM with change requests, Owner & Subcontractor change orders, and other items as needed. Reviews and tracks schedules to learn project flow. Ensures documentation and compliance by maintaining drawing revision logs, requesting pricing for changes in work, and evaluating/preparing/distributing RFIs. Reviews & processes submittals accurately and identifies key items of coordination for PM & Superintendent to review. Assists Superintendent in subcontract management by distributing drawings to subs and working on the submittal schedule and procurement process. Takes the lead role in the project closeout documentation. Tracks quantities for Self-Performed Work (SPW) productivity for monthly cost reports. Assists in running and completing meeting agendas. Completes contingency and allowance logs, etc. Performs additional responsibilities as assigned. Education & Experience Minimum required - Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field. Knowledge & Skills Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Word. Previous experience using Viewpoint, Heavy Job, Heavy Bid, and Hammer Tech preferred. As an experience Field Engineer, you will play a significant part in the success of planning, organizing and implementing project engineering & project controls tasks for our heavy civil construction projects that could include major highway infrastructure, bridge projects, rail/transit, aviation, water/wastewater and power. District Overview Kiewit's Central District is one of our largest infrastructure districts specializing in heavy civil, structural concrete/bridge, water/wastewater, and transportation projects. Responsibilities Field Engineering: * Assist in interpretation of drawings and specifications for field crews and craft supervision * Perform quantity calculations by taking measurements and determining percentage of completed/installed materials and work * Assist in the preparation of work plans and work packages * Assist in field surveying and work layout support including elevation, control points, and compilation of as-built data * Assist in compiling, processing, and confirming daily labor timesheets * Assist in the preparation of Job Hazard Analysis (JHA's) * Participate in jobsite safety reviews, toolbox meetings, mass safety meetings, and safety training * Order and schedule material deliveries * Plan, schedule, and coordinate work groups on the jobsite * Supervise field operations Office Engineering: * Perform material takeoffs from drawings, specifications and other contract documents * Perform basic engineering calculations and technical drafting to support field operations * Assist Engineers to gather and prepare data for submittal or transmittal to the customer, vendors, subcontractors, governmental agencies, and internal use * Participate in the preparation of purchase orders and subcontracts, performing minor solicitations and purchasing as requested * Schedule maintenance and performing updates as directed by others * Assist in the maintenance of basic project recordkeeping and correspondence functions including daily reports, photographs, requests for information (RFIs), and memorandums * Enter data into the job cost system and participate in reviewing cost reports with jobsite management * Assist in generating change orders and as-built data to be reviewed by the Project Manager * Provide field support and supervise subcontractor operations Estimating: * Assist in reviewing and analyzing historical data relative to the project, incorporating various productions and costs appropriate in preparation of a bid * Complete a plan and specification review for an assigned project, assessing the risk areas and bringing them to the attention of the Senior Estimator * Complete material and quantity takeoffs according to bid documents Qualifications * Bachelor's degree in a construction-related field or engineering or similar field, with an interest in developing skills and experience in hands-on, self performed construction with at more than 2 years of experience (not including internships) in the construction field, performing functions as outlined above, preferably in the Heavy Civil Infrastructure market. If no BS degree, must have at least 6 years related experience/education. * Must have working knowledge and be able to perform operations in scheduling, understand "critical path method/CPM", material controls, estimating, subcontracts, change orders processes, record keeping/documentation control, jobsite reviews, coordination of work on a site, and understand estimating systems, material management systems, scheduling tools, document control systems. * Experience with leadership and management of people, strong communication skills (verbal and written), planning and organization skills * Familiarity with paving, grading, cut and fill, excavation, anchor bolt on, concrete forming is ideal for this role. * Willing to travel to projects and relocate. #LI-JB1 Other Requirements: * Regular, reliable attendance * Work productively and meet deadlines timely * Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and others individually or in a team environment. * Perform work safely and effectively.
