@Orchard LLC has an immediate opening to support a well-established solutions provider within the defense, intelligence, and critical infrastructure sector to identify multiple Construction Field Inspectors to support their work in New York City. If you are an experienced Construction Field Supervisor with expertise in overseeing multiple sites, then our client has a challenge for you. Period of Performance is 6 Months with potential extension beyond the said period and a strong possibility for an FTE opportunity after 6 months on the contract.
Description:
Our client is looking for Field Inspectors to oversee construction work in the 5 boroughs of New York City. The scope will include overseeing infrastructure repair and construction activities, documenting personnel and payment quantities, and communicating directly with the client construction managers.
Responsibilities:
The Field Inspectors will work closely with our client who has contractors that will be doing the construction work under direct contract with the client. That work will consist of repairs to existing subsurface utilities and infrastructure. Given that the client's contractors perform the construction work under established unit rates, it will be the responsibility of the Field Inspectors to document payment quantities for the client such as the number of personnel, excavation volumes, material quantities, etc. The client will use this documentation to justify the payment of the contractor's invoices. The Field Inspector will act as the client's representative on the project and communicate directly to the client regarding work progress. The client’s construction managers will periodically visit the project sites.
Skills/Experience Required:
- At least 3 years and not more than 5 years of experience in the construction industry overseeing projects or related work experience.
- Ability to travel within the NYC area without relying on public transportation.
- Must be a local to NYC area or surrounding area.
- Construction experience within New York City area is highly preferred, but not mandatory.
- Ability to work well within the team.
- HAZWOPER Certification is a plus.
- 30-hr OSHA construction certification is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Monitors on-site construction activities, and verifies the quality of materials, workmanship, and products being provided and installed in accordance with the approved construction contract documents.
• Prepare, submit, and maintain daily records of work activities, quantities used, and conditions at the job site.
• Conduct inspections and site observations as required to document the quality of work being installed.
• Reports documented work quality issues to the Quality Assurance Engineer and the Resident Engineer.
• Redline's contract documents as minor changes are being made in the field.
• Assists with the development and implementation of project quality control plans. Recommends corrective/preventive action and implements the necessary action plan to correct deficiencies.
• Assists the Resident Engineer and Office Engineer with review and verification of monthly Payment Applications.
• Attend job-related meetings as requested by the Resident Engineer or Supervisor.
• Report any deviations to the Project Safety Engineer and Resident Engineer.
Qualifications
EDUCATION:
• Associate Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Engineering Technology, or related discipline. Work experience may substitute for preferred education based on the specific job requirements.
EXPERIENCE:
• Minimum of 5 years of experience working on construction, remodeling, retrofitting, rail or mass transit projects or projects within the general infrastructure environment such as track maintenance, electrical, mechanical, civil, structural, etc.
• Ability to read and understand contract specifications and drawings.
• Must have knowledge and understanding of engineering and architectural terminology specifically related to the mass transit and rail industry.
• Ability to supervise the development of daily work records produced by L1, L2, and L3 Field Inspection
Staff to assure that accurate records of work activities, quantities, and conditions of the job site are recorded and reported.
• Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Outlook, Wood, and Excel.
LICENSURES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
• Valid State of Georgia Driver's License required
• OSHA 30 Certification preferred
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
• Required to walk or stand for a minimum of 6 hours per shift.
