The purpose and scope of the position is to provide scientific support to account managers, new and existing customers in accounts in the DC metro region This position will carry out evaluations at prospect sites for new instrument opportunities, support new and existing customers in the use of MSD kitted assays and in the development of new assays in a multidisciplinary setting. The candidate should be based in the Washington, DC area.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Educate, train and support new/existing customers on MSD instrumentation and data analysis. * Train customers on the use of MSD assays, instrumentation and software * Assist existing customers with assay troubleshooting and data analysis * Provide support for customers wishing to develop their own assays on the MSD platform o May include but not be limited to inflammation, oncology, metabolic disorders, neuroscience, immunogenicity, PK, toxicology, bioproduction * Attend scientific meetings, conferences and trade shows, provide feedback and reports * Travel 30 to 50% of the time; able to work at customer sites four days a week Work as part of a team and integrate information between sales and marketing groups to provide resolution of customer issues and expand the customer base through scientific networking. * Integrate with account managers in the strategic selling process to grow instrument and consumable sales in the territory * Present scientific seminars to prospects * Create reports and presentations from assay development visits and new evaluations o Provide feedback from the field to other team members, account managers and internal groups o Document activities and customer interactions in the CRM software (SalesForce.com) Specific duties may vary depending upon departmental requirements. EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: * Master's degree in biology, biochemistry, chemistry, biotechnology, or other related area required; PhD desirable. Where You Will Work:

Climate and Global Dynamics Laboratory (CGD) is part of the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR)located in Boulder, CO. CGD's mission is to:1. Discover the key processes in each component of the Earth's climate system and the interactions amongthem;2. Represent this understanding in models and thereby provide a basis for prediction of climate; and3. Apply this understanding and these models to scientific problems of societal relevance.

What You Will Do:

This position supports an interagency collaborative project to investigate turbulent momentum transport processes in climate models. This project focuses on improving the representation of these processes in the Cloud Layers Unified by Binormals (CLUBB) subgrid turbulence and convection framework.

The project partners include researchers at Penn State University, University of Wisconsin/Milwaukee, and NOAA's Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory (GFDL). This collaborative project aims to provide improved understanding and parameterization capability to NCAR and NOAA climate modeling efforts. As such the incumbent will interact with researchers from the partner institutions to perform coordinated design and analyses of model simulations.

Broad priorities will be determined in consultation with the NCAR investigators of the project. The incumbent is expected to operate with a significant degree of independence.

Responsibilities:

Under general guidance, conducts independent and collaborative research to accomplish the goals of the project:

1. Formulates, implements and validates modifications to CLUBB in CESM;

2. Designs and carries out numerical experiments to investigate sensitivity to various formulations and parameter choices at a range of model resolutions and implements source code modifications as necessary; and

3. Coordinates with LES modelers to evaluate CLUBB algorithms with help of LES and to design targeted experiments where needed. If needed, designs and performs coordinated numerical simulations in support of the project. Analyzes climate model and LES data as well as observational data sets where appropriate. Develops new diagnostics products. Revises the research plan as needed.

Takes the lead and participates in writing of scientific journal articles and formal reports, documenting the findings of the project. Presents results at relevant meetings.

Documents experimental and diagnostics / analysis procedures.

Interacts with the project collaborators and partners regularly for coordinated / joint analysis and experimentation.

What You Need:

Education and Years of Experience:

+ Ph.D. or equivalent in oceanic, atmospheric, or related earth sciences or in applied mathematics, physics or engineering.

+ Desired: 2 years of additional, relevant experience in at least one of these areas.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

+ Ability to work on a team of NCAR and non-NCAR scientists.

+ Demonstrated ability in analyzing small scale turbulent transport processes applying theory and high-resolution simulations from the PBL through the troposphere.

+ Demonstrated ability in designing and implementing reliable Fortran code for parameterization of subgrid scale processes in atmospheric/climate models.

+ In-depth knowledge of the Cloud-layers Unified by Binormals (CLUBB) approach to representing subgrid variability and transport in numerical models.

+ Knowledge of the physical and mathematical basis of (coupled) general circulation models.

+ Experience with the CESM and its component models.

+ Demonstrated knowledge of the UNIX operating system and its variants, including skill in writing shell scripts.

+ Demonstrated knowledge of graphical analysis tools, e.g., Python, Matlab.

+ Demonstrated knowledge of data analysis methodologies for global climate model

+ Knowledge of web-based communication, e.g., HTML.

Position Summary

This position will serve as a multifaceted Application Specialist to facilitate seamless implementation of EUROIMMUN instruments, kits and other products in customers' laboratories.

Job Summary:

The Product Application Scientist (PAS) is at the forefront of introducing the suite of emerging technologies and applications to global customers through the introduction, positioning, training, and supporting of customers adopting the technologies. Additionally, this person is critical in ensuring the customer experience is communicated back into the R&D, product management and global service and support organizations. Essential Functions:

  • Provide training and experimental consultation to customers who adopt new NanoString technologies and applications in the initial stages of release.
  • Provide post-training support on the instrument, applications, and data analysis - field-based or internally-based.
  • Partner with the Technical Services team in advising and building the post-training support requirements, processes, and strategies.
  • Partner closely with the Technical Sales Specialist (TSS) in positioning the new platforms and applications.
  • Develop and manage partnerships that may contribute to early access programs for these new platforms and applications.
  • Partner with and provide input to the Software Development team in the development and continual evolution and improvement of the platform software.
  • Conduct seminars and technical presentations - either in the field or remotely and engage in customer meetings as strategically required.
  • Provide thorough training to other members of the internal and field-based support teams.
  • Spearhead and drive initiatives that enhance the customer experience.
  • Partner with R&D in the development and testing of new applications and protocols.
  • Provide information and intelligence into the Service, Engineering, and Product Management teams as it relates to future enhancements to the technology.
  • Assist or lead the development of technical information including white papers, technical notes, and application notes.
  • As needed, support NanoString's nCounter platforms in relation to GeoMx system operation.

Requirements:

  • Ph.D. in a biomedical science (or related field) preferred and/or Master's degree; commensurate experience considered. Open to recent graduates.
  • Minimum of 4 years as a research scientist in a biomedical research related field.
  • Demonstrated expertise in areas including biological imaging and/or immunochemistry, gene expression, multiplex assays, protein biochemistry, Flow Cytometry, Next Generation Sequencing.
  • Demonstrated experience in supporting the adoption of innovative new technologies with early adopters.
  • Requires excellent organization and communication skills, verbal and written.
  • Experience and ability to present scientific presentations to a diverse audience.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment and can deal with ambiguity.
  • Ability to travel - domestic and international; up to 50-75%.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with biostatistics and computational data analysis is strongly preferred.
