Regular Work hours: 7:30am - 4:00pm, OT & weekends as needed Seeking individuals working in mechanical industries such as automobile, aviation, locomotive, truck or military mechanic applications to develop their skills for them to work in the heavy equipment industry. This program is designed to fast track individuals with previous mechanical experience in becoming an Altorfer Technician. This program provides ten different hands-on training classes. Individuals will attend training at the Altorfer Training Facility in East Peoria, IL, one week per month for 10 months. Basic Duties Complete web-based training prerequisites, prior to attending instructor-led training. During instructor-led training you'll be taught a different course each month. Courses such as: Intro and Orientation, Diesel Engines, Electrical 1, Electrical 2, Hydraulics, Powertrain 1, Powertrain 2, Tier 4 Final Emissions, Fuel Systems and A/C. When individuals are not attending training, they will perform service and repairs on Caterpillar and other types of heavy equipment. Operate equipment in a safe manner to find diagnostic errors or technical problems and determine proper solutions. Establish and maintain a service-oriented relationship with customers and supervisors. Complete service reports in a timely manner. Other duties as assigned Qualifications A minimum of two years' of previous mechanical experience required. Basic knowledge in engine, electrical & hydraulic diagnostic, trouble shooting and repair skills. Military and veterans encouraged to apply. Computer literate. Must be familiar with programs such as Microsoft, Excel and Outlook. Ability to follow all safety rules and wear proper safety equipment in the shop. Must be a self-starter with good time management Willing and able to travel to East Peoria, IL one week per month for 10 months to attend training sessions at the Altorfer training facility. Excellent planning & organizational skills required Ability to work overtime and some weekends when needed. Excellent communication skills (written, e-mail, and verbal) are necessary. Must be able to lift up to 75-100lbs and provide your own tools. High School Diploma or equivalent is required. Must have a valid driver's license and clean driving record. This includes no more than 2 minor violations within the past 3 years and no major violations within the past 5 years (Motor Vehicle Report will be performed on final candidate). Physical Requirements/Working Conditions While attending the training program you will learn in a classroom and shop environment. When not attending the training program, individuals will work in a shop/warehouse environment. May on a continuous basis walk, bend and lift up to 75-100lbs. May be required to wear appropriate safety equipment (IE- Safety glasses or side shields) when needed. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high. May intermittently sit at a desk for a period of time to answer telephone and write or use a keyboard to communicate through email. Must be flexible to work varying schedules and hours as needed. Must be willing to travel one week out of the month for 10 months. Assists in performing point-to-point wiring checks, and power up of new or rebuilt ebeam processor using test equipment and written procedures. LOCATION: Sterling IL ABOUT THE POSITION The technician ensures proper installation and operation of designated Astec products including installation, commissioning startup, training, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair. Technicians will consult with engineering to analyze and remedy problems and to train the customer employees in proper maintenance and operational tasks for maximum efficiency and customer satisfaction. Deliverables & Responsibilities • Perform installation under the direction of more experienced employees. • Maintains positive and professional attitude with customers. • Accountable for proper start up, operation of all electrical, electronic/control systems, and mechanical components, proper sequencing/Interlocking, and proper calibration, and applications of each of these systems • Conducts operator skills training for selected customer employees including but not limited to start up sequence, troubleshooting, electrical and mechanical basics, and control systems operations. • Generates written field service reports for daily activities; submit reports as required. • Coordinate and communicate with Astec sales, engineering, and manufacturing groups for product or process issues, including warranty, design recommendations, and reporting of any/all damage to equipment during shipment or installation. • Work closely with the Functional Leadership, Product Support Managers, and Office Support Staff to ensure accurate service reports, and associated billing. • Be available for emergency dispatch; 7 days a week, 24 hours a day to support our customers and staff. To be successful in this role, your experience and competencies are: • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); some previous work-related experience is a plus; or a combination of education and experience equivalent as deemed sufficient by management. • Minimum 0-2 years' experience in construction, manufacturing, or related fields • Prefer 0-2 years of experience in the HMA, Concrete, or Combustion Industries • Knowledge of electrical and electronic circuits • Ability to read and understand mechanical, electrical, and electronics blueprints and designs. • Knowledge of circuitry, pneumatic, hydraulic, and other power transmission equipment • Willingness and ability to travel extensively domestically and internationally at a moment's notice. • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written • Basic arithmetic skills, computer skills (Windows, Microsoft Office, Concur, and all IPS Control Systems) • Strong analytical skills • Ability to weld, with a stick and certain types of wire welding (MIG), use of a cutting torch, knowledge of steel fabrication, assembly, and modifications. • Capable to manage conflict and resolve issues most positively for all parties concerned. • Experience in working alone, or in a small group and being comfortable with independence on the job. • Maintain positive, cooperative working relationships by working, acting, and communicating with various personalities getting along with customers, vendors, co-workers, and management working both individually and as part of a team. • Written communication, technical reports, and logbooks must be at a high level of proficiency. Ability to stay productive with little supervision.
