MGX Field Crane Technicians are responsible for the inspection, diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of various crane equipment including mobile cranes and boom trucks. This position will be located in the Charleston, SC or surrounding area, reporting to the Service Manager at the Aiken, SC branch for MGX Equipment Services.
* Candidates hired for this role will receive a $4,500 sign-on bonus, payable after 90 days continuous service; and be eligible for our Tool Reimbursement Program of up to $1,500 per calendar year. Relocation assistance may also be available to those who qualify.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Diagnose, repair and troubleshoot various mobile hydraulic and lattice cranes.
Capable of accomplishing tasks independently without direct supervision.
Perform thorough and accurate annual inspections.
Properly fills out working reports, hours reports, time sheets, hours overviews and expense reports.
Provides excellent customer service.
Other duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
High School Diploma or GED with a minimum of two (2) years of experience as a Crane Mechanic/Technician preferred.
Experience working with different forms of mobile crane equipment, specifically Grove RT & TMS Cranes; Grove GMK European Cranes; Manitowoc EPIC and/or Traditional Cranes; National Boom Trucks preferred.
Must be able to read both electrical and hydraulic schematics.
Must be able to travel 50% of the time to job sites and for training as required.
Must have excellent communication skills with a customer/client focus.
Must possess a valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
Basic computer skills preferred.

PAY & TRAINING:
This position offers a pay range between $25.00 - $45.00 per hour depending on skills and qualifications for non-bargaining employees. Pay is provided on a bi-weekly basis and there are 14 days in the pay period, beginning on a Monday and ending on a Sunday.

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The primary function of this position is to determine the status of and provide support for school and activity buses within the school bus industry. This includes all types of planned maintenance services, as well as any expert level field repairs, replacements, installations, or rebuilding of parts to restore the bus to its proper operation. In addition to the essential duties, this position requires special experience and expertise on Ford products such as the 6.8L (V10) and 7.3L (V8) engines and 6R140 6-speed automatic transmission.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Review the work schedule, check the equipment and supply required to perform the work scheduled, comply with PPE requirements, and otherwise prepare for duties.
Use manuals, repair manuals, parts manuals, parts diagrams to troubleshoot, engines, engine fuel systems, & transmissions.
Use lift trucks, overhead cranes, & other aides to lift or move parts into position to be repaired.
Use hand & power tools to remove, install, replace, re-build, repair, & test.
Use miscellaneous resources & computers to reference parts, get information about parts & enter data into record systems.
Use hand & power tools to disassemble/reassemble parts or equipment, drains fluids into tubs, cleans parts with rags, cleaners, power washer.
Climb up onto, under, & into vehicle engine compartment, uses hand & power tools to disassemble/re assemble: sheet metal, engines, transmissions, fuel systems, & other parts or equipment.
Replace pumps, batteries, radiators (200 lb. with assistance), bearings, seals, wiring, solenoids, fuel lines, nozzles, tests float valves, glow plugs, alternators, etc.
Use overhead hoists on service truck to move parts that need to be moved off of vehicle & onto service truck & to move items back to vehicle to be reassembled.
Use various types of meters, measuring devices, & computers to test & recalibrate equipment.
Perform inspections, do preventative maintenance, change oil, replace filters, belts, coolants, hoses, drain/clean/refill fuel systems.
Operate equipment that requires a class B CDL license with passenger endorsement.
Perform maintenance and repairs associated with the following engines: Cummins ISB, ISC, ISL , ISM engines, as well as Ford 6.8L(V10) and 7.3L(V8) engines.
Perform maintenance and repairs associated with air brakes, air conditioning, basic electricity with experience and understanding of wiring and hydraulic shematics.
Perform maintenance and repairs associated with air bags, king pins, foundation brakes, differentials, clutches and transmissions.
Ability to work with multiple management groups and staff to help provide the best possible customer service.
Ability to work flexible hours which would include being part of an on - call rotation with other technicians.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education:
Must have a high school education or GED.
Work Experience:
Eight years of experience with at least four years of experience working on school/activity buses, or comparable experience working in an original equipment manufacturer dealership. Fully understands equipment systems and sub-systems (i.e., engines, hydraulics, electrical, transmissions, etc.) for respective product lines. Experience and expertise with Ford products such as the 6.8L (V10) and 7.3L (V8) engines and 6R140 6-speed automatic transmission are mandatory.
Physical:
Must be able to daily and repeatedly stoop, kneel, bend, and climb onto and underneath various equipment to perform diagnosis and repairs. Must be able to effectively see to perform repairs, research technical manuals, and develop written repair work order reports. Must be able to routinely and physically lift/position various parts to perform repairs/service and manually handle parts up to 117 pounds, as well as use mechanical hoist for heavier parts.
Other:
Must be able to effectively write repair activities on customer work orders. Must have cognitive reasoning and critical thinking skills to apply knowledge, written information, and verbal instructions in repairing/servicing unusual and/or unknown technical equipment operational problems. Should have exposure to PC base equipment and parts information. Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
Field Activity:
Must be able to operate an assigned service vehicle daily as well as be prequalified to operate under GPEC Fleet Policy Standards. The driver must be able to operate their assigned vehicle for extended periods to reach customer's locations. Must be able to effectively communicate using telephones to receive instructions and to provide service information. Must be able to effectively deal directly with customers at site locations in a professional manner.

Field activities require a valid state driver's license (obtain within 30 days of hire a valid license within the state of GPEC's operation) AND possess a safe driving record which meets the safe driving standards outlined in the GPEC Fleet Policy. Operation of some vehicles will require a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL), others may require that the driver possess a DOT medical certification.
