In 1950, the Wire Cloth Weaving Division entered the automotive industry and established a relationship with General Motors’ Hydra-Matic Division.
MF&T, originally registered as Filtration and Transfer, was founded in 1963 and it focussed on supplying filters to the natural gas, offshore and process industries.
Along with filters for vehicles, industrial filters have been produced since 1966.
In 1973, it was acquired by the Sealed Power Corporation of Muskegon, Michigan, and became known as Filtran.
Microfiltrex was formed in 1974 and provided precision filtration technology to the Aerospace and Defence, Industrial, Process, Nuclear, Polymer and Powder Handling industries.
The 1980’s saw much technological advancement, and transmission filters advanced from screen filter technology to more advanced filter media, integrated into the transmission system.
The business specialised in filtration systems and heat exchangers and it was procured by Meggitt in 1983 as part of their energy division.
In 1986, Filtran expanded its presence beyond North America when it formed a joint venture with IBS Brocke GmbH in Morsbach, Germany.
In 1988, the Sealed Power Corporation changed its name to SPX Corporation, and Filtran became known as SPX Filtran.
Filters for Industry Ltd. (or 2Fi as it came to be known) was established in 1989, specialising in the design and manufacture of high technology filters for customers in the printing, mining, petrochemical, polymer and general process industries.
After the licensing agreement expires in 1990, filters from Öhringen are marketed exclusively under the Knecht and MAHLE brands.
In the 1990’s, the automotive market became truly global when all automotive manufacturers expanded their markets worldwide.
MF&T (Meggitt Filtration and Transfer) operated as part of Meggitt for ten years prior to its acquisition by Filters for Industry in 1993.
In 1996, Filtran became the first automatic transmission supplier to earn QS9000 Registration.
In 2000, IBS Filtran launched a new all plastic integrated transmission filter and pan.
Filters for Industry Ltd. It was purchased by Porvair plc in 2001 and has become the manufacturing hub for general industrial filtration within Porvair Filtration Group.
In 2003, Filtran established a sales and engineering office in Shizuoka, Japan to support its growing Asian market share.
In 2006, Filtran launched a second manufacturing facility in China to meet the expanding Asia and export markets.
Renamed Porvair Filtration Group Inc. in 2008, it serves as a local hub for all US business to Porvair Filtration Group.
In 2009, Filtran was acquired by Madison Industries and approximately one year later became a founding business in the newly formed Filtration Group.
From 2011 MAHLE operates Filtersysteme GmbH and MAHLE Industriefiltration GmbH in Öhringen as two independent companies inside the Group.
In 2015, Filtran expanded its North American operation with a manufacturing facility in San Luis Potosi, Mexico to meet the growing footprint of the automotive OE’s.
In 2015, Porvair Filtration Group acquired a North American company TEM Filters Inc., based in Idaho.
In 2016, Porvair Filtration Group launched its operational site in Xiaogan, near Wuhan in China.
In 2017, Porvair Filtration Group established an operational base in Mumbai, India.
In 2018, Porvair Filtration Group acquired Keystone Filter, a designer and manufacturer of filter cartridges and housings for the food and beverage, drinking water and chemical process markets.
In Spring of 2019, Filtran opened an additional OE production facility in Jiaxing, China.
In 2019, Porvair acquired Royal Dahlman, to increase our portfolio, offering broad range of custom designed filtration solutions and assemblies to the the oil and gas industry.
