Interns may have the opportunity to evaluate the following: fairness of financial statement presentation, the adequacy of internal controls, the efficiency and effectiveness of an entity's operations and systems, and compliance with laws, regulations, contracts, and grant agreements. Location Financial audit internship opportunities are based out of Nashville, Tennessee. Depending on the audit assignment, interns may have the opportunity for limited travel during the summer. Typical travel opportunities are in the Nashville area; however, some may allow for travel to other parts of Tennessee. Who We're Looking For We are looking for rising juniors, seniors, or graduate accounting students who are interested in applying what they've learned in the classroom to governmental auditing. To be considered for the internship program, candidates should have successfully completed at least 6 hours of Accounting coursework. Successful interns are those who are adaptable, able to think critically, work well both individually and as part of a team, and are willing to learn and grow. Candidates should exhibit interpersonal and communication skills to communicate tactfully with auditees, coworkers, and others. Interns are expected to apply their classroom accounting knowledge to meaningful audit work. About Our Office The Office of the Tennessee Comptroller of the Treasury is responsible for the audit of state and local governmental entities and participates in the general financial and administrative management and oversight of state government.
