Zions Bancorporation has just opened an opportunity for Accountant on our SEC Reporting & Accounting Policy team. Position is based in our downtown Salt Lake City office and is eligible to work from home Mondays and Fridays to align with the flexible department schedule (subject to periodic review).

Ideal candidates will have the skills and experience necessary to:


Ensure the appropriate application of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) to all transactions, including complex and non-routine transactions and structures. Responsible to draft and maintain the Company's accounting policies and to deliverer accounting training across the company. Identify potential accounting consequences of new business proposals, changes in market conditions, and new accounting interpretations from bank regulators. Assist in addressing regulatory accounting policy questions and issues. Work with operational accounting, finance, and various departments, to implement new accounting guidance and improvements to existing accounting practices. Provide accounting guidance for existing, new, and proposed accounting pronouncements. Direct the resolution of non-standard accounting issues. Ensure proper documentation of all accounting related matters and application of related controls. Analyze and assist with the preparation of SEC required financial statements and disclosures. Other projects and duties, as assigned.



Qualifications



Requires a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting. CPA, or in process of obtaining license, is strongly preferred. 1-2+ years of Big 4 or other public accounting experience is preferred. Alternative, relevant work experience is acceptable. Foundational knowledge of US GAAP, including basic experience with the FASB codification, and understanding of accounting practices, principles, processes, and procedures. Knowledge of financial analysis, financial statements, or other SEC reporting requirements. Strong attention to detail. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Ability to be a team player and work in a group atmosphere. Reside in the Salt Lake City metropolitan area of Utah or be willing to relocate.

Responsible for analyzing and interpreting past and future business performance through financial reporting. Communicate findings and impacts effectively to customers and management. This position is responsible for providing comprehensive support to a broad customer group and has an aptitude for learning new technologies and applying them to improve processes within the reporting and accounting teams. (Open to candidates within the Continental US)
Job Responsibilities

Collaborate with the Finance organization to provide Accounting and Finance guidance to customers. Accurately develop, maintain and discuss various reports with the reporting team. Provide analysis and explain results to clients. Build relationships with assigned clients and provide requested support. Ensure understanding of the systems/processes for the business areas supported. Collaborate with others in a team setting, either directly or indirectly. Research new tools and existing tools' new functionality and evaluate opportunities to apply these capabilities to improve current reporting processes. Participate in the selection of tools that are appropriate for the reporting area. Evaluate and resolve issues and errors found within our tools, maintaining the credibility and integrity of the data. Utilize various tools to design and develop automated processes. Collaborate with others in a team setting, either directly or indirectly.



Job Requirements


Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Financial discipline. Previous experience (1-5 years) in finance or accounting role preferred. (i.e. Internship) Proficient with Microsoft products, such as Excel, Access and PowerPoint. Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with a specific business unit leader. Effective written and verbal communications. Proven ability to manage multiple priorities. Proven ability to identify process improvements. Proven ability to work effectively with team members. Familiar with Financial Reporting tools. Business Objects, SAP - BPC and PeopleSoft experience preferred.

Base Salary Range:

$56,700.00 - $85,100.00

The Accountant III is responsible for preparing and reviewing complex journal entries, account reconciliations supporting journals, supplementary schedules, etc. in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Statutory Accounting Principles (STAT) or other basis as deemed applicable.
Essential Functions:
Prepare and review complex financial statements including the compilation of regulatory financial statements, etc. on a timely and accurate basis Analyze trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments and obligations to assist in predicting future revenues and expenses Initiation, preparation and calculation of complex internal/external payment requests for contracted arrangements and timely submission to manager to ensure timely payment Evaluate and make appropriate recommendations to internal accounting processes ensuring that practices are in line with the overall goals of the organization Execute all necessary and identify need for internal controls for related entities consistent with Model Audit Rule (MAR) requirements Participate in the audit and reporting functions including financial and regulatory audits Research existing and new legislation, changes in financial accounting standards and National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) statutory requirements, including accounting transactions, and documents the impact and accounting requirements, including journal entries and financial reporting presentation and disclosures, in compliance with GAAP, STAT and/or other external reporting Lead implementation of new accounting procedures for new programs or program changes Prepare reports to ensure on-time filing of all internal and external financial reports Prepare ad-hoc requests for information, schedules and analysis for specific area(s) Assist in the training of new associates Fiduciary duty to safeguard the financial assets of the CompanyPerform any other job duties as requested

Education and Experience:
Bachelor of Science/Arts Degree in accounting, finance or related field is required Post-graduate degree is preferred and provides credit for one (1) year of related experience Four (4) years of related experience in accounting/finance required Managed care or healthcare experience is preferred Previous experience in a large ERP system is preferred

Licensure and Certification:
