If you qualify for an Introductory (PTAS) Contract, you will preview an agent career with New York Life as an independent contractor while continuing to work at your current job, with limited exceptions. During this preview period of up to six months, any sales you make will continue to accrue until you either make enough sales to become a full-time agent under a Training Allowance Subsidy (TAS) Contract or the passage of six months, which ever is earlier. If you do not become a full-time agent, all commissions on any sales you made will be paid to you at the end of six months. If you become a fulltime agent under a TAS Contract, you will be credited with the commissions you accrued under the Introductory Contract.

N9 is the current contract for new financial professionals. N8 contracts were issued to new financial professionals priorto April 2004. Contracts determine your compensation and benefits. Sales production requirements are determined annually by the company. Historical agent incomes are provided for informational purposes only. Agent income is not guaranteed. Income is dependent upon the sales of each agent. Agent compensation is commission-based and determined through the ledger process. Overall compensation includes positive income credits for commissions based on actual sales and certain allowances or incentives, if eligible, based upon persistency and production, as well as debits associated with commission reversals, authorized expenses, and other items. Each credit and debit posted to the Agent's Ledger is part of determining the agent's compensation and no individual credit posted to the ledger is earned until the ledger reconciliation process is complete. Agents receive payments equal to the positive balance on the Agent's Ledger after the credits and debits are applied.

THE POSITION Under direction, to provide professional-level financial services in areas of budget development and processing, contract negotiation and administration, financial planning and monitoring, financial accounting and reporting, and grants management to County departments and agencies; to conduct a variety of studies and inquiries and perform financial analytic and administrative work; and to do related work as required. DISTINGUISHING FEATURES Financial Services Specialist I/II is a flexibly-staffed class series with the work normally performed at the II level, but with initial selection possible at the I or entry level. Incumbents hired at the I level will be expected to gain experience and demonstrate proficiency which qualifies them to promote to the II level after the equivalent of two years full time service.
