Responsible for the collection, evaluation and assessment of all in patient and out patients' services financial and insurance information that will result in the appropriate resolution for the patient and the hospital relative to balances owed. The activity will include review and analysis of all options available for the patient, settlements, budgets, charitable care, all determined by the patient's ability to pay.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the general direction of the Director of Patient Accounts and the direct supervision of the Manager Financial Assistance, all activities are to be conducted within established Catholic Medical Center and departmental policies and procedures; the employee will perform the following essential functions:
Processes a minimum of 35 outbound calls (ACTS work list) will be made per day to patients with outstanding balances with the ultimate goal of balance resolution after the appropriate assessment of all patient's financial information.
Responds and resolves all incoming inquiries by telephone and in person office visits from patients regarding balances and work those balances to resolution after appropriate assessment of the patient's ability to pay the outstanding debt.
Provides all information necessary to attorneys, insurance companies, etc., which will ultimately result in payment of the patient's balance.
Processes patient complaints by following documented hospital and accounting department policies and procedures dealing with patient account issues.
Clearly understand the current billing system and is able to discuss and explain hospital bills, charges and statements with the patients.
Documents patient account level activities and collection efforts using the current ACTS system. This activity will include, but is not limited to, follow up activity as well as bad debt recommendations to the Manager
Initiates system adjustments to patient accounts for cash postings, accounts consolidations, refunds and adjustments.
Qualifications Education:
High School diploma or equivalent.
Experience:
Minimum one year collections and/or credit office experience preferably in a health care setting.
