Since 1984, FINCA has been working to alleviate poverty around the world.
In 1984, founder John Hatch saw that lack of capital was keeping poor Bolivian farmers poor.
1985 – Establishment of FINCA International The Foundation for International Community Assistance (FINCA) is established
FINCA Uganda opens in 1992, proving that Village Banking™ can work in diverse geographic and cultural environments.
FINCA Kyrgyzstan opens in 1995.
1998 – Establishment of FINCA Tanzania FINCA Tanzania is launched and begins providing microfinance solutions
The United Nations declares 2005 the Year of Microcredit.
The 2006 Nobel Peace Prize is awarded to Muhammad Yunus and Grameen Bank, validating the positive global impact of microfinance.
2008 The Khashf Foundation is founded with a mission to alleviate poverty in Pakistan.
2009 The bank launches deposit-taking operations across its branch network.
2010 The bank opens ATM facilities and strengthens its branch network across Pakistan.
2011 The bank is awarded the Silver Award for social performance reporting from MIX Market.
2012 – Transformation to FINCA Tanzania M.F.C Limited FINCA Tanzania becomes the first microfinance institution to be licensed by the Central Bank of Tanzania, becoming FINCA Tanzania M.F.C Limited.
2012 The bank launches gold-backed lending and surpasses 1 billion PKR in outstanding Gross Loan Portfolio.
2013 – Transition to Deposit-Taking Institution FINCA Tanzania is licensed to offer banking services by the Central Bank of Tanzania
2013 The bank is acquired by FINCA and re-brands as FINCA Microfinance Bank Ltd.
2014 – Launch of FINCA Express (Agency Banking) 2014 – Transition from FINCA Tanzania M.F.C Ltd to FINCA Microfinance Bank
2015 – FINCA Tanzania becomes a full-service bank After 17 years of operations as a microfinance institution, FINCA Tanzania opens a new chapter as a full-service bank
In August 2018, FINCA International announced the launch of FINCA Ventures, an impact investing platform that provides patient capital and pre- and post-investment support to help early-stage social enterprises achieve growth and scale.
