Completed in 1887, the Studebaker Building was 8 stories tall and one of the first steel-frame skyscrapers in downtown Chicago.
The Fine Arts Building officially opened in October of 1898.
By 1898, Studebaker had outgrown the space, and a renovation to transform the building into the Fine Arts Building was led by Charles C. Curtiss, who the 10th floor Curtiss Hall is named after.
From architect Frank Lloyd Wright to sculptor Lorado Taft, the Fine Arts Building has provided a community for artists, writers and cultural critics since 1898.
The store was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright who had an office on the 10th floor in 1908.
Completed by Nicholas Lochoff, a Russian artist commissioned in 1911, the paintings were eventually purchased by Helen Clay Frick who donated them to the University.
In 1914, Margaret Anderson started The Little Review, the most controversial and avant-garde literary journal of its time.
In 1915, Anderson criticized a speech given by British writer and lecturer Edith Lees Ellis at Chicago’s Orchestra Hall on Feb.
