Fire Engineering company history timeline

1947

Fire Engineering Co., Inc.’s history began in 1947 when Herman L. Gillett, a young engineer from the Army Corps of Engineers, purchased a franchise in the Viking Sprinkler Co.

1971

In 1971, Continental Fire Sprinkler Company was founded by brothers John and William McVey.

1973

In 1973, Russ moved the company to his hometown of Medford and opened a new facility at 57 Hicks Ave.

1974

In 1974, R. William Murphy joined Fire Equipment as a shop technician, recharging and servicing fire extinguishers.

1986

"Minutes of First Meeting of the National Conference on Standard Electrical Rules", Held at the Hall of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, NY, NY, March 18 and 19, 1986.

1995

In 1995, Continental Fire Sprinkler Company added to the fire sprinkler division and incorporated Continental Alarm and Detection Company.

2005

In 2005, Kiewit Corporation, one of North America’s largest and most respected construction, engineering and mining companies, bought the business, including the Continental names: Continental Fire Sprinkler Company and Continental Alarm and Detection Company.

2008

In 2008, the decision was made to merge both companies and as a result, Continental Alarm and Detection Company became a wholly internal division of Continental Fire Sprinkler Company, now known as “Continental Alarm and Detection, a division of Continental Fire Sprinkler Company.”
