Perform skilled work in maintaining automotive, medium and heavy duty trucks, to include all Fire Division and Rescue (EMS) Division vehicles, including small gas engines and other associated equipment. WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR: Self-starter with positive can-do attitude Knowledge of Diesel engines preferred Valid class CDL B driver's license with Air Brakes or willingness to obtain within the first year Knowledge of up-to-date methods of maintaining autos, trucks and emergency vehicles preferred ASE and/or EVT certifications a plus This is a full-time position, Monday - Friday 7:00-3:30. Diagnose the cause of any malfunction and perform repairs to correct specifications including, but not limited to, engines, transmissions and suspension, fuel and ignition system, and exhaust, intake, electrical, mechanical, brake, and HVAC systems. Problem solve/ quality check while following procedures including documenting all work performed on work orders. Inspect reports, list of repairs and parts, identify root cause of basic failures/ conditions to fix as required, replace defective components, and utilize diagnostic computers when applicable. This role is responsible for providing on-site diagnostics, repair, and maintenance for refuse collection vehicles (front loaders, rear loaders, side loaders, and roll-off trucks) throughout New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. The ideal candidate has strong experience with hydraulic systems, electrical troubleshooting, and heavy-duty truck repairs, and thrives working independently in the field. Key Responsibilities - Perform diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs on refuse collection vehicles at customer sites. - Service hydraulic systems, electrical systems, compaction equipment, and lifting arms. - Conduct preventive maintenance, including inspections, adjustments, and component replacements. - Operate service truck equipped with tools and parts to complete field repairs. - Document work performed, parts used, and service recommendations. - Communicate effectively with customers to explain issues, timelines, and solutions. - Ensure safety standards are followed at all times when working on heavy equipment.
