1829

Settled in 1829, its growth was slow until the period of heavy westward migration, when pioneers were attracted by its location on important land routes.

1901

After students at his Bethel Bible School in Topeka, Kansas, began speaking in tongues at a prayer meeting on January 1, 1901, Parham, through his Apostolic Faith Movement, had some success in promoting the restoration of the gift of tongues.

1906

In the summer of 1906, revival erupted in the newly-formed congregation meeting at the small, run-down Apostolic Faith Mission at 312 Azusa Street in Los Angeles, California.

One of the focal points of the emerging Pentecostal movement was known as the Azusa Street revival (1906-09). It was an unlikely location for an event that would change the face of Christianity.

1914

Assemblies of God, Pentecostal denomination of the Protestant church, generally considered the largest such denomination in the United States. It was formed by a union of several small Pentecostal groups at Hot Springs, Arkansas, in 1914.

1916

In 1916, the Assemblies adopted a formal confession of faith in response to a controversy over the doctrine of the trinity.

1917

Our church began at the home of Peter and Anne Duborg in 1917, when the Holy Spirit started a revival.

Such fervency of prayer was consuming passion of these early believers known as The Pentecostal Mission in 1917.

1925

In 1925, this fellowship applied to the General Council of the Assemblies of God asking for affiliation.A letter was drafted by the Secretary of the General Council of the Assemblies of God, accepting this fellowship calling this new church The Assembly of Tyler.

1932

In 1932, another work was established on East Erwin St known as the Full Gospel Tabernacle.

1937

In 1937, a deed of trust was signed for the purchase of the property and soon after, the body of believers entered into a project of erecting a building on this site.

1943

In 1943, it allied with formerly-skeptical evangelicals to form the National Association of Evangelicals.

1947

On February 23, 1947, the first service was held in the old Lincoln School auditorium across from Thomas Square.

1950

The first Island-wide Convention on the Assemblies of God in Hawai‘i was held at Honolulu’s First Assembly of God in May, 1950, at which time the new church building was dedicated on Sunday afternoon, May 21, with Brother Noel Perkin as speaker.

1967

In 1967, the AG formally removed the pacifist plank from its constitution.

1973

The Sassers arrived in Honolulu to take up the pastorate in February of 1973.

1977

1977 was a year of ministry expansion.

1979

In 1979, the first home Bible study groups were formed so that the people would be ministered to in a small-group environment.

1980

Pastor Sapp reorganized the Aloha Kindergarten into the Aloha Day Care and Pre-School, which in turn became the forerunner of Christian Academy, formed in 1980.

1990

In October 1990, though the facilities were not fully completed, First Assembly of God moved to its new home at 3400 Moanalua Road on Red Hill.

1994

In 1994, Pastor Sapp retired and Pastor Klayton Ko was elected as the new senior pastor.

1998

Pastor Hock-Lin Chua, who served under Pastor Seaward in Singapore, joined First Assembly of God’s pastoral staff in 1998 to provide training and lay the foundation for a new church-planting program.

1999

In November of 1999 the previous senior pastor, Doctor Thomas Gulbronson, was severely injured in a fall.

2002

The church was without a senior pastor from then until December 2002.

2003

Wes Johnson, along with his family, moved to Alexandria, VA, and began their ministry at First Assembly of God in January 2003.

2010

In 2010, the AG claimed nearly 3.1 million adherents in the United States and 66.4 million worldwide.

2014

At its centennial in 2014, the Assemblies of God claimed a constituency in the United States of 3,146,741 adherents; 12,849 churches; and 36,884 ministers.

2019

As of 2019, under the leadership of Pastor Ko and Pastor Chow, the Missions department has launched 75 missionaries and planted 15 churches around the world.
