Pros of working at FIRST

Helping provide amazing programs for youth. 1 week off in July.

Cons of working at FIRST

Long hours. Weekends with little to no comp. Expectations to work past 40 hours to get the job done with no extra pay. Low pay compared to anywhere else in the area. No enough people to do the job so everyone is working way harder than they should. Burnout is high and turnover of personal is faster than any other company i have seen. Leadership refuses to listen. Quick to change policy based on loud people in community without actually understanding the problem even if it makes it more difficult for the majority. management only cares about the mission not the people.

Nothing

How would you improve FIRST's culture?

Higher more people! Stop expecting people to just work more than 40 hours. Listen to your people and stop writing them off as complainers!

How did you prepare for the FIRST interview?

I didn't

How does your compensation at FIRST compare to the industry average?

Much less and there excuse for this is it's a great mission and that's worth it. They also continue to remind everyone it's a non profit so expect less pay.

What's the diversity at FIRST like?

Engineering lacks women and every other part of the company is around 75% women. It's awkward and they continue to push promotion of diversity.

What brings you the most joy at FIRST?

The only thing worth it at the end of the day is the mission and what it does for youth around the world.
