About the Role As a Senior Underwriter at Biz2Credit, you will play a vital role in evaluating loan applications and assisting with the underwriting process. We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Underwriter to join our team at the NY Office. In this role, you will be responsible for performing comprehensive financial analysis on small businesses, including trend and ratio analysis. Your expertise will be crucial in interpreting financial information to assess credit quality and cash flow, enabling us to make informed lending decisions. Responsibilities Review loan applications and supporting documentation to determine eligibility and creditworthiness of borrowers. Analyze financial statements, credit reports, tax returns, and other relevant data to assess risk and make informed lending decisions. Conduct comprehensive due diligence and verify accuracy of information provided by applicants. Responsible for full cycle underwriting of assigned small business financing. Collaborate with the Underwriting team to identify potential red flags and mitigate risk. Stay updated with industry trends, regulations, and underwriting guidelines to ensure compliance. Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders, including Relationship Managers, to gather necessary information and clarify requirements. Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of underwriting decisions and findings. Qualifications Bachelor's degree preferred but not mandatory in finance, accounting, or a related field Previous experience in underwriting, credit analysis, or a similar role is preferred but not mandatory for entry-level applicants. Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and make informed decisions. Familiarity with financial statements, tax returns, and credit reports. Knowledge of underwriting principles, lending regulations, and risk assessment methodologies. Excellent attention to detail and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: * Accesses risk regarding the applicant's financial status, with regard to credit and income. * Must have the ability to read and analyze tax returns and financial statements. * Evaluates property appraisal to determine compliance with appropriate guidelines. * Has knowledge of all federal and state regulations regarding lending and related departments. * Maintains awareness of current and ever changing investor/agency/government guidelines. * Keeps informed of current underwriting practices and assists in updating the Bank underwriting policies. * Confers with Processors/Loan Officers to aid in resolving issues that arise during the underwriting or closing of loans. * Assists in training the mortgage department staff as well as the processors and loan officers on underwriting guidelines. * Assists in answering questions to the underwriting scenario help desk. * Develops and maintains knowledge of financial industry, economy and market conditions. * Completes annual compliance courses. * Adheres specifically to all corporate policies and procedures. Also adheres to Federal and State regulations and laws; including, the Bank Secrecy Act and the Anti-Money Laundering Act. * Adheres to all levels of our Service Excellence standards. * Performs other duties as required. GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge & Experience: These specifications are general guidelines based on the minimum experience normally considered essential to the satisfactory performance of this position. Individual abilities may result in some deviation from these guidelines. A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required. Ten years of underwriting experience or multiple underwriting designations from FHA, VA and/or USDA. Work related experience should consist of duties in a business environment. Educational experience, through in-house training sessions, formal school or financial industry related curriculum, should be business or financial industry related. Physical Demands/Work Environment: Vision, hearing, speech, dexterity, visual concentration. A valid driver's license is required. Must have the ability to stand, walk, sit and use hands and fingers. Must have the ability to work the hours and days required to complete the essential functions of the position, as scheduled. The environment is a professional office with standard office equipment.
