We are seeking a Controls Engineer for our start up First Quality Tissue site located in Defiance, OH. The Controls Engineer specifies, designs, implements, and maintains complex controls systems and software programming on production equipment and associated machinery while solving complex problems.
Primary responsibilities include:
Accountable for directing controls engineering activities for site expansions and major capital projects and delivering comprehensive support to ensure operational excellence. Work with OEMs, vendors, and contractors to design, install, integrate and start-up new equipment and process controls. This includes selecting and approving electrical and instrumentation components, reviewing, approving electrical and process control network designs, evaluating software, conducting machine acceptance testing and resolving issues.
Responsible for specifying Distributed Control Systems (DCS), PLC's, HMI's, servo systems, instrumentation, network components and analysis software in accordance with FQT controls standards.
Assesses, identifies, schematically designs, and makes complex program modifications in DCS, PLC logic, HMI programs and servo controller logic for production equipment and associated assets. Provides quality checks to insure correct software development.
Performs high level troubleshooting, in-depth critical thinking, and utilizes all internal & external resources to solve any electrical, mechanical or process problem. Leads & assists others in troubleshooting machinery, equipment, components, and programs including PLC's HMI's Servo systems and Robotics.
Provides technical and operations training to Controls Technicians, production, warehouse, and other personnel as needed. Shares knowledge and techniques with team members and coordinates the training of new personnel.
May be exposed to high noise environments.

The ideal candidate should possess the following:
Bachelor's degree in electrical/controls/ mechanical Engineering, or related field.
Minimum 5 years of relevant experience with demonstrated results.
Experience with industrial control networks design, set up and troubleshooting.
Focused controls engineering experience including specifying control elements/devices, programming control loops, troubleshooting/optimizing processes.
Advanced PLC based hardware and software, Distributed Control Systems, and automation experience.
Proven ability to lead large capital projects.
Candidates must be proficient in:
CAD software, AutoCAD
Microsoft office
Strong communication, analytical and collaboration skills interfacing with all levels of the organization; ability to simplify complex issues and resolve issues.

We are seeking an experienced Controls Engineer for our First Quality Products facility located in McElhattan, PA.
This position is primarily responsible for specifying, designing, implementing, and upgrading complex controls systems and software programming on production equipment and associated machinery. Provides mentorship and assists Controls Engineers and Technicians in solving complex problems. Will have a direct link to plant performance results through machine improvements and engineering-based upkeep.
Principal Accountabilities/ Responsibilities:
Collaborates with internal Engineering Teams, Maintenance and Production personnel, OEMs, vendors, and contractors to design, install, commission, and start up new equipment and process controls. This includes electrical and controls component selection and approval, electrical design approval, software assessments & modifications, machine acceptance testing and problem identification and resolution.
Responsible for specifying and/or designing DCS's, PLC's, HMI's, servo systems, motors, drives, sensors, vision sensors, and data collection systems based on the FQ controls standards criteria. Evaluates electrical equipment from multiple sources and recommends the best solution for use.
Assesses, designs, and makes complex program modifications in DCS's, PLC logic, HMI programs and servo controller logic to improve individual equipment and overall system performance.

Education and experience requirements:

Can create and modify schematic drawings using AutoCAD software.
Minimum of 8 years' experience with Industrial Controls Systems. Advanced knowledge of electrical theory and principles of operation.
Advanced knowledge of PLC based hardware and software (Rockwell and Siemens), Servo Control, and HMI.
Knowledge of Mechanical, Pneumatic, and Hydraulic systems
Formal Training in Functional Machine Safety and proper safe machine design through Safety Risk Assessment.
Knowledge or formal training in Security in Automation (ISO 62443)
Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt (preferred but not required)

Summary

Our client, a Fortune 500 pharmaceutical company, has engaged GForce Life Sciences to provide a Senior Electrical Engineer. the Professional Engineer (PE) will have expertise in electrical systems including electrical distributed power generation, feeds, distribution, lighting, fire alarm, emergency power, UPS, and low voltage systems. The PE is responsible for overseeing the engineering of these systems for major capital projects and initiatives from conceptualization through programming, design, bidding, construction, commissioning, and close out.
The PE will be responsible for multiple high-complexity projects of diverse scope that require an understanding of state of the art construction techniques and a high level of expertise in electrical systems, as well as rigor in compliance, and the highest standard of care. Science projects include research laboratories, vivarium, pilot scale manufacturing, major scientific equipment, amenity space, outdoor plaza, site lighting, and infrastructure projects.
The PE shall collaborate with the project team to effectively identify innovative solutions and bring clarity to the project process using a sophisticated analytical approach and sound judgement. Ensure all electrical engineering work aligns with relevant regulatory, safety, and quality standards, including ITAR, UL, CE, and ISO9001/AS9100.
Represent the company in technical forums, standards committees, and supplier engagements to promote best practices and stay abreast of industry trends.
Contribute to strategic product planning and roadmapping, providing input on feasibility, timelines, and emerging technologies.
Education/Experience & Skills:
Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Computer Engineering, and 3-6 years of previous experience as an Electrical Engineer required.
Experience with Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) or drone platforms is required.
Proficiency in Python, C/C++, MIPS assembly, MATLAB, Lab View, NodeRED, bash and batch scrips
Proficiency in OrCAD/PSPICE, EAGLE, LTspice, ADS, Altium, Cadence Allegro, Xpedition Designer, and Solid Works
Proven capabilities working with all standard lab equipment and tools (soldering, oscilloscope, logic analyzer, spectrum analzer, multimeter, data loggers, termal chambers
Experience in MS Office products
Demonstrated experience presenting and public speaking engagement
Experience with embedded system design, microcontrollers, SoCs, FPGAs, and analog/digital signal processing.
Proven capability in EMC/EMI design and testing, with in-depth understanding of applicable standards such as MIL-STD-461, CISPR, and FCC.
Knowledge of power systems design, including battery management systems (BMS), DC-DC converters, and fault protection.
Hands-on experience with system-level integration, including communication protocols (CAN, RS-485, SPI, I2C, Ethernet, etc.).
Understanding of environmental and reliability testing (HALT, HASS, thermal cycling, vibration) and root-cause failure analysis.
Familiarity with PLM systems (e.g., Agile, Arena), BOM management, and product lifecycle documentation.
Skilled in technical writing and communication, including the development of detailed reports, procedures, and design documentation.
Familiarity with DFX principles (Design for Manufacturability, Assembly, Testability) and engagement with contract manufacturers.
Understanding of ITAR, ATF, and EAR regulations as they pertain to electrical and embedded systems.
Experience with NATO standards, MIL-SPECs, and other relevant defense and aerospace documentation and design criteria.
Working Conditions:
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working at a computer using a keyboard and mouse performing repetitive tasks.
Ability to open file cabinets, reach with hands and arms, bend, and twist, lift and move files.
Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) where required.
Must comply with all work exposure EH&S training requirements and adhere to SIG SAUER Inc. Security Mandates.
