The job of Transmission Line Design Oversight Engineer requires an individual to be self-directed with an interest and / or ability to manage engineeringdesigns, equipment and standards for the External Engineering group within FirstEnergy. This position will work with multiple external design firms, engaged in a wide variety of transmission line engineeringdesign, from the earliest design stages through construction and record update. This position will report on the progress of design projects and advise of any issues that could impair the successful completion of the project on a proactive basis. This position must provide technical support to Substation and Transmission personnel, Real Estate, Project Management and Construction crews verifying that no safety standards are compromised, checking for accuracy, and monitoring expenditures to ensure projects stay within budget allocation and meet the required in-service date.
Responsibilities include:
Direct responsibility for overseeing multiple transmission line design projects, across multiple external design firms. This position will work in conjunction with external design resources to deliver and/or facilitate the following:
Creating engineeringdesigns and work scope for transmission line projects and confirming documentation and support is available to necessary personnel. Possible items including steel structures, foundations, clearances, layout drawings, grounding, oil containment, lightning protection, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
Transmission Line Design Oversight Engineer will conduct engineeringdesign reviews for transmission line projects. Possible items including QA/QC checklists, one lines, schematics, detail wiring diagrams, and nameplates.
Transmission Line Design Oversight Engineer will document and enter design issues in the design accuracy tracker database after each project review.
Ensuring designs support a safe environment for transmission lines and substations personnel, contractors, and the general public.
Reviewing NESC clearance requirements and ensuring public safety is protected.
Supporting communication across business units regarding project needs. Convening internal project schedule compliance review meetings with necessary parties to assure deliverables support project schedule and are within the project budget.

Qualifications include:
Bachelors of Science degree in Electrical, Civil or Mechanical Engineering (BSEE, BSCE, BSME) from an ABET accredited institution is required. Acceptable alternatives are: (1) a Professional Engineer's (PE) License (2) a Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Civil or Mechanical Engineering or technical field of study (non-ABET) plus an advanced degree in Electrical, Civil or Mechanical Engineering from a university with an ABET accredited Bachelor's program.
Minimum of two years of Engineering experience is required.
A Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Certificate is preferred.
Working knowledge of applicable computer software necessary to fulfill job duties including but not limited to Microsoft Office and AutoCAD.
Knowledge of FileNet, SAP, and Cascade a plus but not a requirement.
Must embrace a safety culture and maintain a safe work environment for co-workers and the public.
Must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously and be able to work effectively under the pressure of deadlines, unexpected developments, changes in project scope, budget constraints, unforeseen field problems and demands on time for work assignments outside of the normal duties.
Must have strong interpersonal skills and develop and maintain relationships across FE, with outside firms and manufacturers that further facilitate the cooperation needed to complete assigned tasks and that will inspire others to achieve, or exceed, goals.

This position will work within a staff of engineers, designers, survey crews, drafters and specialists, both internal and external, engaged in a wide variety of engineeringdesign, from the request for project estimation through construction and record update. Periodically assisting field surveying activities with all aspects of a daily crew workload.
Ensuring designs support a safe environment for transmission lines and substations personnel, contractors, and the general public.
Preparing and filing applications and supporting documentation for engineering permits when
necessary.
Reviewing transmission line encroachments to meet NESC clearance requirements and coordinating encroachment responses with ROW Services and Transmission Line Maintenance personnel and ensure the public safety is protected.
Directing technical personnel to gather and record data for transmission and substation design projects.
Working with outside engineering firms, vendors, equipment manufacturers and consultants.
Providing engineering support to employees to assist in their learning of standards, procedures, designs, and associated issues.

The selected candidate will lead technical efforts supporting high-visibility, mission-critical Department of Defense (DoD) programs. Requirements
Active Top Secret Clearance (must be current).
Minimum of 10 years of relevant aerospace engineering experience, with at least 5 years focused on sensor technologies and systems integration within the DoD.
Master's degree in an Engineering discipline from an accredited institution.
Proven experience leading complex DoD engineering or aerospace programs.
Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with naval aviation systems or airborne sensor platforms.
Familiarity with DoD acquisition processes and engineering documentation standards.
Demonstrated success driving innovation and technical optimization in aerospace system development.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION
Candidate must possess a bachelor's degree in engineering or a closely related field.
EXPERIENCE
- One (1) year of experience in engineering. Internships, co-ops and/or related college level coursework in applied engineering principals can be utilized and incorporated as experience.
- Experience performing administrative and/or technical tasks within an engineering project is preferred.

Candidate will be responsible for working closely with other engineering and design team members to coordinate overall design basis, providing direction and guidance to drafters and designers, directing the flow of drafting and designer duties, insuring design schedules are met, including regularly providing project status updates to project engineer. Incumbents are expected to work to develop advanced skills, and work both independently and within a team.
