Fisher Associates was founded in 1984 by Claire Fisher, P.E. who began the business in the kitchen of her farmhouse working mostly for private developers on site development and environmental projects. As work began to increase, she relocated to the firm’s first official office in Clyde, NY. DBE and WBE certifications were subsequently obtained, and Fisher began serving as a sub-consultant to other engineering firms on state and federally funded projects. The firm grew to approximately 70 people during this time and was recognized as a go-to DBE/WBE firm due to not only the high-quality work that was provided, but because the staff was accessible, responsive, attentive, and followed through on the projects they were partners on. These importance qualities served as the firm’s business philosophy back then and they still serve as our foundation today. We call this philosophy our Clientship™ philosophy.
Claire’s vision was always to graduate from the DBE program and become a self-sustaining prime consulting engineering and professional services firm and in the early 2000s, we did just that and began winning work primarily as a prime consultant, while still teaming strategically with other firms when appropriate. At that time, Fisher also expanded its services to include energy-related work in both the renewables and oil and gas markets. The firm grew to over 100 employees between 2000 and 2015 and opened offices in Syracuse and Buffalo, NY as well as Erie and Canonsburg, PA. In 2021, we opened the Binghamton, NY office, and Ithaca-based Trowbridge Wolf Michaels Landscape Architects joined Fisher Associates, to become our firm’s Landscape Architecture Studio. Today, we have over 160 employees and an additional office in Sugar Land, TX as well as remote employees in New Hampshire, Ohio, Oregon, and New Jersey. Fisher Associates is licensed to conduct business in over 35 states across the U.S.
