We are seeking up to four (4) exceptionally talented and enthusiastic individuals with a keen interest in the natural sciences to join our team to work on one project site in west-central Ohio and one project site in northwestern Ohio. This opportunity begins in April and runs through November 2026 with possible extension for a full year or more. Field work is estimated at 40 hours per week with the possibility for overtime. Ability to identify birds (including raptors) and bats of Ohio is preferred, but not required.
Field work will include walking long distances outdoors and will include exposure to the elements (i.e., sun, heat, cold, rain, mud, insects). Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs.

Position Overview and Responsibilities:
Three technicians will be hired from mid-April to mid-August 2026 to assist with estimating abundance and density of black bears in northcentral Florida. No bears will be captured or handled. Duties include installing barbed-wire hair corrals and collecting bear hair samples following a strict sampling protocol, collecting bait and other supplies, entering and correcting data, and other duties as assigned. Technicians will build corrals in a 2-person team but check them alone. A typical work week is 10 hours/day over 4 days with 3 days off, but technicians may be required to work extra days as needed to stay on schedule. The job will be strenuous, requiring technicians to hike off-trail in harsh weather conditions (e.g., high temperatures and humidity) in areas with biting insects and venomous snakes. Field housing will be provided but food expenses will not be covered. Technicians will be driving agency vehicles during work hours but will need their own transportation for personal time.

Duties Description This position will involve implementing an angler survey that involves direct contact interviews of anglers and recording data from fishing trips in a standard manner. This position will also involve participation in Lake Erie fisheries programs aboard RV Argo and other vessels. The incumbent will also process and analyze samples in a laboratory setting, and QA/QC and enter data into a database. Other data processing and entry tasks will occur as office work. Other field and lab work will be required as needed.
Minimum Qualifications Thirty semester credit hours, including 12 semester credit hours in fisheries, marine resources or wildlife management; mariculture; marine biology; aquaculture; aquatic, marine or terrestrial ecology; zoology; marine technology; botany; limnology; hydrology; or oceanography.
Additional Comments This is a hourly appointment currently funded through 3/31/2026, with a likelihood of continuing beyond that date. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date.
Actual work schedule, duties and travel requirements may vary and will be discussed at the interview.
Must have a valid driver's license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.

Train in on-boarding tasks which may include animal handling, sexing, and restraint on multiple species as well as feeding, watering, husbandry of multiple species. Clinical observations, acclimation observations, and body weight determination on multiple species as well as qualitative and quantitative food consumption. Specific tasks will be based on each area's training plan and business needs.
Collect, document, review, and verify data on forms, or in electronic data capture systems.
Review documentation of functions performed as part of quality control requirements.
Use and maintain instrumentation and equipment.
