Head of Instructor Acquisition
Maven 4.2
Remote job
Team: Growth
Reports to: VP, Growth
Maven is reinventing our post-secondary education system from the ground up. We're starting with practical, professional courses on key skills taught by leading experts in your field. Think: learning AI Product Management from a head of product at OpenAI or an engineering lead at Meta. Our cohort-based model means our engagement rates are 80-90% instead of the 5-10% from video-based learning. Maven's marketplace has 500+ expert-led cohort-based courses, 70K+ student alumni, and 700K+ registered users. Today, we're direct to consumer but eventually we'll offer certificate programs, MBA-like programs, and sell directly to businesses.
We are founder-led; our CEO, Gagan, co-founded Udemy, and our CTO, Shreyans, was the first engineer at Venmo. Our business grew over 100% last year. We've raised $25 million from Andreessen Horowitz, First Round, and a supportive network of industry angels and are on track for profitability.
Role Overview
As our Head of Instructor Acquisition, you'll own and scale the top of the instructor funnel, driving awareness, affinity, and intent among the most compelling experts in tech and beyond. Your work will sit at the intersection of product marketing, GTM, sales and community, combining strategic positioning with premium storytelling and high-touch execution.
You'll deeply understand what motivates experts to teach on Maven, build narratives that make teaching feel inevitable, premium, and exciting, and activate a powerful ecosystem of operators, execs, creators, and thought leaders who expand our reach and reputation.
This is a senior, high-impact role ideal for someone who can zoom out to GTM strategy and positioning, then zoom in to craft a sharp landing page, run a high-quality industry event, or refine a GTM motion.
What You'll Own
Your primary goal will be increasing the number of new, high quality instructors launching courses each month.
Instructor-facing brand & positioning
Develop Maven's instructor-facing brand strategy, balancing aspiration with credibility
Define our instructor value proposition across audience segments
Craft compelling narratives and positioning frameworks that make Maven the obvious choice for ambitious experts
Community, content & ecosystem growth
Activate and nurture a vibrant community of influencers, advisors, creators, operators, and execs who refer and inspire future instructors
Lead instructor-facing content strategy, including thought leadership, case studies, spotlight stories, and executive communications
Own our presence in relevant industry communities, events, and networks (online and IRL)
Top-of-funnel growth & campaigns
Scale high-quality inbound instructor interest
Ideate, create and launch targeted campaigns, events, and partnerships that reach the right experts at the right time
Constantly experiment, measure, and iterate on acquisition tactics and messaging
Customer research & insights
Stay obsessively close to our instructor audience: their motivations, objections, workflows, and goals
Lead qualitative and quantitative research to segment the market and refine targeting
Translate insights into GTM strategies, onboarding flows, and product feedback
What We're Looking For
8+ years experience in marketing with a background in acquisition marketing, GTM, brand, and/or community
A portfolio of work that demonstrates taste, storytelling, and strategic clarity
Deep familiarity with the tech ecosystem, and strong relationships with operators, founders, and execs
Fluency in both qualitative research and data-driven optimization
Proven success launching new programs or products in early-stage or fast-moving environments
Experience marketing to high-trust, high-bar audiences (e.g., execs, creators, consultants, advisors)
Comfort operating with autonomy, speed, and high standards
Bonus:
Background in the creator economy, expert platforms, edtech, or marketplaces
Experience running events, building ambassador programs, or cultivating communities and partnerships
Why This Role Matters
The instructors we attract will shape the future of learning. They're also the face of Maven in the public eye, in our courses, and in their professional circles. Building the Maven instructor brand isn't just about acquiring more teachers; it's about making Maven the platform of choice for the world's top minds.
If that challenge excites you, we'd love to meet you.
Team & Culture
You'll report to Mallory (VP, Growth) and work closely with Claire (Instructor Acquisition), as well as our product, design and marketing teams.
Maven is a small, high-trust, high-ownership team. We move fast, write often, and bias toward action. Everyone is hands-on - from the founders to the newest hire. Expect direct feedback, collaborative thinking, and a culture that prizes clarity, impact, and creativity.
We are fully remote, with no-meeting Wednesdays and biannual company offsites. Join us to do the best work of your career, and help build the world's most dynamic expert-led learning brand.
