This is primarily a law enforcement position. Rangers patrol park properties, levees, bikeways, and conservation areas enforcing State of Ohio laws and the Rules & Regulations of Five Rivers MetroParks. Takes appropriate action to prevent crime, apprehend criminals, maintain safety for the public and staff, conduct search and rescue, and assist park visitors in a wide range of emergency and non-emergency situations. Duties/Responsibilities To perform this job successfully, an individual must perform essential duties to expected performance standards. Checks facilities for safety problems and secures areas at closing time. * Responds promptly to accidents and other emergencies. Directs or participates in first aid and rescue activities, or personally administers first-aid, including CPR and AED. * Directs traffic and enforces park traffic regulations to facilitate traffic safety. * Assists in controlling/capturing both domestic and wild animals in and around the parks that may pose a risk to the visiting public. * Handles lost and found property in accordance with policy. * Escorts employees carrying cash, or personally delivers money to and from banks. * Maintains confidentiality of confidential or sensitive records and information. * Works assigned schedule, exhibits regular and punctual attendance, and works outside of normal schedule as required. ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES * Provides service to the public, responding to questions, helping, and providing information. * Collaborates internally, within and across departmental boundaries, to provide information and service to others in the organization to contribute to the effective operation of the agency and all staff. * Cleans ranger vehicles and assists in maintaining the Ranger Headquarters. * Attends meetings and training sessions. * Performs various public relations activities. May coordinate OVI checkpoints and prevention activities. * Occasionally may conduct educational programs on-site and at schools, speaks to civic and other groups, participate in parades, staff MetroParks promotional displays, and perform other duties that promote the MetroParks and encourage effective public relations. * May serve as "Officer in Charge" in the absence of an on-duty supervisor. * Performs other duties as assigned. A combination of appropriate education, training, course work, and experience may qualify an applicant to demonstrate required knowledge, skills, and abilities. An example of an acceptable qualification is: * High school degree or GED. * No significant or serious criminal record and a good driving record. * Willingness and ability to frequently work an irregular work schedule, including evenings and weekends. * Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy (OPOTA) Certification. * Law Enforcement Agencies Data System (LEADS) Operator Certification. * Valid Driver License which meets Five Rivers MetroParks' insurance carrier guidelines.
