DESCRIPTION OF WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING The primary responsibility of this position is, with a high degree of vigilance, to monitor swimmers and respond to situations where their safety may be compromised. This includes observing guests as they swim and monitoring their proficiency, maintaining a safe environment by enforcing rules, and providing care to guests who may become injured or encounter a physical ailment. During a typical rotation you may be on the pool deck for up to an hour. Secondary responsibilities will include basic upkeep of the facility by maintaining a clean environment, which is free of trash and clutter, and during the winter you may be asked to participate in the removal of snow from the facilities entrance. You will also be responsible monitoring the safe operation aquatic attractions the safety of swimmers in the facility abiding safe operation rules. Experience: N/A Certified as American Red Cross Lifeguard or the equivalent, and First Aid and CPR certificates. Age: At least 15 years of age at time of appointment, and eligible to receive a General Duties Work Permit from the Alaska Department of Labor & Workforce Development, if under the age of 17. Note: Some positions may require WSI (water swimming instructor) certification or other specialized certification in diving, scuba diving or kayaking as appropriate.
