As a Distribution Designer at Atwell, you will play a crucial role in supporting project teams through meticulous design work on both overhead and underground distribution electrical facilities. This position involves addressing intricate engineering challenges across a variety of projects, working with electric utilities and private developers.
Key Responsibilities:
Distribution Overhead lines:
Pole replacement, PCB transformer replacements, large infrastructure projects and line expansions.
Distribution generation, line refurbishment, and new construction (wood and composite poles).
Grid Modernization: Smart switches & battery storage:
Switch replacements, internal line conversions, rebuilds, voltage conversions and major projects.
Distribution Underground lines:
Replacement of underground feeders including but not limited to identifying splicing, installation of vaults, kiosks, and switch gears.
Designs including overhead to underground transitions.
New Customer connections
Subdivision design
Street lighting
Upgrade work on existing customer connections
Design overhead and underground distribution electrical facilities and also work on projects including but not limited to: system improvement pole locations, substation design, and service design.
Address engineering challenges on diverse projects of varying sizes and scopes.
Collaborate with electric utilities and private developers.
Maintain a keen focus on precision and technical expertise.
Verify as-built conditions in GIS/AUD so that any identified discrepancies with field date are corrected as part of engineering submissions.
Qualifications:
Knowledge of NESC, PENG (overhead and underground).
Experience working on distribution, transmission, system improvement projects, substation design, service design, and switch replacements.
4+ years of relevant experience preferred.
Proficiency in AutoCAD is required.
AUD (Automated Utility Design) experience is a bonus.
Familiarity with engineering design software applications, such as PLS CADD, PLS POLE, SPIDACalc, Quick Pole, CDEGS, CYMECAP, CYMEDIST, CYMETCC, SAG10 (as specified by the purchaser).
Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
Apply problem-solving abilities for large utility clients.
Utilize and learn engineering software packages for distribution design.
Communicate effectively with Project Manager and Team Leader on workload status to meet chargeability goals.
Preferred Experience:
Background in Electric Distribution, Natural Gas Distribution, and/or Communications (Fiber).
Strong math and engineering skills, including structural analysis, sag analysis, basic algebra, and geometry.

Your Role
As a Summer Brand Design Intern in Gensler's Denver office, you will join our creative studio environment for a full-time, paid internship opportunity.
This is a full-time program running from June 2 through August 7, 2026. You must be available for the entire duration of the program.
What You Will Do
You will use your design expertise to contribute to a wide variety of project types, including environmental, print, and brand development. We are specifically looking for Interns who have a passion or interest in signage and wayfinding solutions to help people navigate complex spaces. You will be working under the mentorship of lead designers and will gain tremendous experience and insight into the project processes.
* Participate in multiple types of project phases, including conceptual designs, presentations, schematic design, design development, construction documents and production.

What You'll Do:
The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed in this position. They are not intended to prescribe or restrict the assignments that management may make.
Design layouts for all types of vertical transportation equipment, including passenger and freight hydraulic and traction elevators, escalators, and moving walks.
Be responsible for assigned projects, including meeting deadlines, estimating time for tasks, managing multiple projects, and ensuring project accuracy.
Coordinate project design and drawing delivery with Project Managers and Consultants.
Coordinate layout drawings with Consultants and client Architects. Coordinate project schedule with Consultants and clients.
Interpret specifications when provided and apply them as required by the job task.
Research elevator codes and building codes and apply them as required by the job task.
Download and review Architectural drawings. Update Consultant on design changes/issues from architectural drawings compared to LB Vertical Transportation drawings.
Document Consultant and Architect from phone conversations, emails, drawings/mark-ups, and faxes.
Effectively communicate with BIM/CAD project coordinators.
What You'll Bring:
A Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, or a related field.
At least 1 year of experience using AutoCAD and Revit. Experience with architectural drafting and coordination with architects is preferred.
Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency with MS Office Suite, Excel, Acrobat, PowerPoint, and Bluebeam Revu.
Competency with Revit. Some education/experience in AutoCAD is helpful.
Mechanical engineering design experience and electrical engineering design experience are preferred.

Working Environment:
This role involves both physical and mental demands and may be performed in various settings, including offices, construction sites, and confined spaces like elevator pits. Physical Demands:
This role requires regular sitting, talking, and hearing in meetings and by phone. Close visual attention is also required.
