Overview Modern Technology Solutions, Inc. (MTSI) is seeking a Flight Manual Manager to support a cutting-edge Air Force platform within the Sustainment Branch of the F-47 program. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing the technical content, format, and accuracy of flight operations documentation in compliance with Air Force Instructions (AFIs), MIL standards, and Technical Order (TO) policies.
This role directly supports the development, maintenance, and distribution of flight manuals critical to safe, effective, and repeatable mission execution for aircrew and operators.
Responsibilities The Flight Manual Manager combines technical writing expertise, configuration management discipline, and strong coordination skills to oversee manual lifecycle management, including acquisition, verification, sustainment, and periodic reviews.
This position is essential for ensuring that all flight operations documentation remains compliant, aligns with program requirements, and supports safe operations for advanced military systems.
Additionally, the role encompasses collaboration with stakeholders, including Technical Order managers, Major Commands (MAJCOMs), and Air Force leadership, to ensure compliance, quality control, and operational Key responsibilities include: Technical Management Manage the technical content and accuracy of flight manuals in accordance with AFI 11-215, AFI 63-101/20-101, MIL DTL-7700, and other applicable standards.
Perform initial acquisition, verification, sustainment, and periodic reviews of flight manuals.
Monitor compatibility between flight manuals and other program Technical Orders (TOs).
Chair Flight Manual Review Conferences and ensure funding availability for administrative requirements.
Compliance and Coordination Maintain permanent records of deviations, waivers, and approval letters for compliance throughout the manual lifecycle.
Coordinate funding, numbering, distribution, and indexing with the TO manager.
Program Coordination & Cross-Functional Integration Participate in TO planning conferences, In-Process Reviews (IPRs), Flight TO Review Boards, and design reviews to ensure quality control.
Collaborate with Major Commands (MAJCOMs) and using commands to determine requirements for new and updated flight manuals.
Provide MAJCOMs with pre-publication review copies and track proposed changes electronically.
Quality, Compliance & Governance Maintain adherence to USAF flight manual standards and applicable technical order (TO) processes.
Conduct quality checks for clarity, consistency, structure, and safety compliance.
Prepare documents for formal review, validation, and approval through established program governance processes.
User Engagement & Feedback Integration Gather feedback from operators, pilots, maintainers, and SMEs to improve clarity and usability.
Implement updates that enhance mission execution, safety, and training effectiveness.
Required Qualifications Active Top Secret security clearance (SCI eligible).
Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Systems Engineering, Aeronautics, Technical Writing, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
8+ years of experience performing in the role(s) of Certified Engineer, Flight crewmember, Military Aircrew experience, Flight Manual Manager Expertise in applicable MIL standards, Air Force Instructions, and Technical Order policies.
Must meet one of the following: Familiarity with military systems and aircraft operational requirements Experience producing, managing, or updating technical manuals or flight operations documentation for DoD programs.
Strong understanding of configuration management processes, technical order systems, and Air Force sustainment activities.
Ability to interpret engineering data, system requirements, and test results to produce accurate documentation.
Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills, with meticulous attention to detail.
Desired Qualifications Experience supporting Air Force fighter, ISR, or advanced aerospace programs.
Previous work in logistics, sustainment, or lifecycle management environments.
