The Flight Coordinator is representing the company to the flight crew(s). The first responsibility is the pre-flight check inside the production facility to ensure the Catering for the assigned flight(s) is assembled according to the airline's order and company standards. The second responsibility is to hand over the flight catering to each flight crew onboard the aircraft, ensuring all Catering is loaded according to the airline's request. Finally, the third responsibility is to prepare all necessary paperwork for the next day's flight(s), so the production departments have all relevant information for the next day's production.

How you'll help us Keep Climbing (overview & key responsibilities)

Flight Operations Safety Programs seeks a Co-Op to help support the Pilot Fatigue Program and the Human Factors Working Group. The Co-Op will work directly with the teams under the Chief Pilot - Safety Programs, collaborating with our cross divisional partners in Corporate Safety, Flight Safety, and Crew Resources to support safety initiatives in Flight Operations.

The current projects through these programs support Delta's Safety Management System (SMS), which is a cornerstone of Delta's proactive accident and incident prevention system to track, trend and resolve aviation hazards.

Students will need to be able to work the below semesters at Delta (deferring classes) while enrolled in a 2 or 4 year university:

Spring 2023

Fall 2023

Summer 2024

*Graduation of August 2024 or later required

What you need to succeed (minimum qualifications)

+ Applicants must be in a degree seeking program focused on Aviation Safety, Aviation Management, or other similar field

+ Strong organizational, project management, and personal management skills.

+ Robust verbal and written communication skills at all levels.

+ Ability to work well in teams.

+ Must be currently enrolled full-time in an accredited college or university and must have at least three (3) work semesters available

Responsibilities:

The principal purpose of the Flight Operations Coordinator is to brief the crewmembers, be crew advocates, flight following, and keeping the company compliant with all regulatory and maintenance requirements and client agreements.

Essential Duties:

  • Crewmember Logistical Resolution: communicates and coordinates crewmember requests, arranges and updates crewmember operations issues (i.e. FBO after-hours arrangements, hangar space for aircraft, etc), facilitates and communicates crewmember transportation and hotel arrangements, records and manages crewmember flight and duty times.
  • Ensures safe and legal coordination of scheduled flights and that all crew member duty times are scheduled in accordance with FAR 135 and SOP’s, safety, security, and quality standards.
  • Assists with assigning trips and building reposition (repo) legs for the current day and future trips.
  • Assist with research of flight & service deviations.
  • Communicate changes to the appropriate departments within the Operations Control Center.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to internal and external customers.
  • Oversee planning and coordination of international flights, including but not limited to hotel arrangements, ground transportation.
  • Report non-compliance observations for any potential safety, security or quality issues.
  • Make rapid decisions concerning safety, regulations, and the economy of operations.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Manager.

Qualifications (Experience & Education):

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university with a course of study/major in business, aviation, or operations management; or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Dispatch License Required.
  • Knowledge of FARs in regard to Part 91, 121, 125 or 135 airline operations preferred.
  • Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office products and aptitude to learn customized company software programs.
  • Familiarity with core job competencies including, but not limited to, flight planning, international operations, weather, and ATC.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment and be flexible to the changing needs of the business.
  • Must be detail-oriented and able to work productively, independently, or within a team.
  • Strong communication (verbal and written) skills with the ability to self-motivate, handle multiple tasks, meet established targets.
