What You Will Do
Daily troubleshooting & repair of instrumentation in live process units.
Instrument turnaround maintenance activities (ID potential scope items, enter T/A work orders, lead work crews for scope as assigned, and perform instrument scope work)
Work a 4/10 day-shift schedule (M-Th) and participate in an afterhours/on-call rotation
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
Work experience in the Instrumentation craft in any industry OR a graduate of an Instrumentation Degree Program
Possess a valid US Driver's License

Our Team
At our Corpus Christi refinery, DCS technicians are recognized as subject matter experts (SMEs) regarding the specification, installation, maintenance, configuration, life-cycle management, reliability/availability, troubleshooting, upgrading, and the best practices of DCS applications in current use in the plant and as recommended by the vendor and industry. Our DCS technicians apply their knowledge and talents while collaborating daily with (DCS) Board Operators, Process Control Engineers, IT engineers, and Project Engineers, their design teams, and project stakeholders to achieve stable site operations and business-focused results.
The primary DCS technology at Corpus Christi refinery is Emerson DeltaV. We interface the DeltaV with Allen-Bradly and Triconex PLCs, and our plant uses HART device alerts from DeltaV in our AMS system.
What You Will Do
Assist instrument and analyzer techs and electricians with troubleshooting unexpected data to or from or within the DCS.
Collaborate with DCS console operators to make operability improvements, including DCS graphics modification and alarm management and rationalization.
Collaborate with process control engineers in the development, implementation, and improvement of DCS-based advanced control strategies, including state-based control, transition automation, and model predictive control; implement configuration for supervisory controls capabilities.
Collaborate with project engineers to guide project scopes that economically meet expected business outcomes.
Collaborate with project designers, from reserving system IO and performing field walk-downs to providing the guidance necessary for their development of complete and error-free IFC project design packages.
Implement DCS vendor hot-fixes and security updates; upgrade DCS system hardware and software without interrupting the process.
Proactively frame-up and recommend improvements to DCS installed equipment to meet potential future needs of customers and users.
Collaborate with instrument techs and DCS console operators in the commissioning of new or modified DCS configuration and enabling HART communications for smart field devices.
Collaborate with peers at other FHR sites, sharing what you know and learning from them.
Collaborate with IT engineers in the network design, hardware selection, commissioning, monitoring, and troubleshooting of outside-of-the-DCS network communication.
Troubleshoot OPC, Modbus, and ethernet interfaces with foreign-to-DCS devices.
Support remote logins to the DCS.
Troubleshoot unexpected "loss of data" events with process and environmental engineers.
Proactively monitor the health of DCS hardware.
Available for on-call rotation
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
4 + years of experience with DCS or PLC service, support, and/or configuration experience in a chemical plant or refinery or similar.
Expertise using industrial plant automation/control systems hardware (including servers, workstations, switches) and software in automation and process control applications.
A working knowledge of communications protocols such as Modbus RTU/TCP, Ethernet I/P, OPC UA/DA, and HART in industrial
control system applications.
Good understanding of the engineering documents associated with DCS and process control digital equipment installations and projects such as electrical drawings, loop drawings, P&IDs, and Cause and Effect tables.

Lift and carry: 50 pounds for 100 feet
Bending, stooping, walking and climbing stairs
Able to pass periodic medical evaluations and respirator fit tests to ensure continued compliance with OSHA standards.
Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps
Moving self in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces
Remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods
Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another
Communicating with others to exchange information
Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers
Operating machinery and/or power tools
Operating motor vehicles or heavy equipment
Assessing the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned
