The Public Safety Dispatcher reports directly to the Director or Assistant Director of Public Safety. Essential Responsibilities * Receives calls concerning crimes, emergencies, and other requests for assistance; monitors and responds to calls from the University system, as well as from campus "Blue Light" emergency telephones. * Monitors fire and burglar alarms and alarm systems for all university buildings. * Broadcasts orders to public safety officers in vicinity to investigate complaint or request when appropriate; relays instructions or questions from patrol units. * Assists with emergency alert paging in the event of a campus emergency. * Relays radio and telephone messages between public safety officers and the campus community. * Performs receptionist duties; responds to questions from walk-in and telephone traffic. * Monitors the campus closed circuit camera systems. * Performs various clerical duties including completing the electronic dispatch log and filing reports. * Serves as Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act. * Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: * Fully support the mission, vision, and values of Mississippi College. * High school diploma, degree or University hours desirable but not required. * Previous dispatch or public safety experience desired * Excellent oral and written communication skills. * Possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the specific duties of the position. * Willingness to work evening, overnight, weekend, and holiday hours as needed. * Submit to and successfully complete a background investigation.
