MIDFLORIDA began in 1954 as Polk County Teachers Credit Union.
Established in 1954 as a state-chartered credit union, FCU was originally called the Alachua County Teachers Credit Union and was owned and run by teachers in the Alachua County School System.
floridacentral Credit Union was established in 1958.
Chartered January 17, 1962, West Florida Central Credit Union, one of three Central Credit Unions established by the state of Florida, was the credit union for other credit union employees and officials in the West Florida Area.
In 1971 the credit union achieved the milestone of hiring the first paid employee and establishing the first West Florida Central Credit Union office.
As assets grew and membership included a broader base of employees than the original name implied, the credit union underwent a name change– becoming Florida HRS Credit Union in 1972.
Membership reached 13,484 in 1980 and assets topped $10 million.
June 1982, Central Credit Union of Florida was made the first community credit union in the state of Florida.
The credit union continued to grow and prosper and, in 1997, the credit union applied for and received permission to expand its charter to include the communities of Polk and Highlands counties.
In 2002, MIDFLORIDA expanded its community charter to include Okeechobee, Sumter and Hardee counties.
In 2003, three years after celebrating its 50th anniversary, Government Employees Credit Union expanded its field of membership to include all who lived or worked within the counties served in major metropolitan areas across the state and changed its name to First Florida Credit Union.
As Central continued to grow, in 2007, Central Credit Union of Florida acquired Endeavor Federal Credit Union.
In planning for future expansion, MIDFLORIDA received permission in 2009 to become a state-chartered credit union, shortening the company name to MIDFLORIDA Credit Union.
2013, Central requested, and was granted by the State of Florida, permission to expand our field of membership.
