POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for development and dissemination of nutrition education materials and wellness education programs for use by agency clients, staff and general public. They are responsible for assessing individual's nutritional needs, and working with clients and community agencies to coordinate services. As part of the dietetics/nutrition team, they will provide comprehensive nutrition services including health promotion, disease prevention, and Medical Nutrition Therapy to clients, individuals and groups to maximize their health and independence. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: Assist the Executive Director in prioritizing the needs of the agency and community regarding diabetes education programming. Provide medical nutrition therapy in-person or via telehealth. Lead Diabetes Self-Management Education sessions Work with fellow dietitians and staff to ensure diabetes education, programs and services meet the needs of clients, goals of department, as well as the ADCES or ADA requirements. Provide diabetes education and presentations in-person or via webinars or other virtual modes as requested for groups and organizations, including corporate, non-profit, and education systems. Complete client electronic health records, reporting for ADCES or ADA Recognition, monthly reporting as required by LifeCare Alliance's Wellness department's protocol, as well as client forms that are associated with grants, and any other reports or information required. With Diabetes Dayton staff, complete annual review, with revision as needed, of the diabetes education service's nutrition and medical curriculum, program forms, and support materials. Support Diabetes Dayton camps for children with diabetes to ensure dietary needs are being met, appropriate snacks are on hand and educational components are being met. Provide diabetes education and complete biometrics for staff, interns and volunteers and other organizations and provide workplace wellness education as requested. Work collaboratively with Executive Director of Diabetes Dayton to help enhance the agency's collaborative relationships with other organizations and community members. Responsible for acquiring and maintaining continuing education, licensure, and credential requirements. Participate in LifeCare Alliance's Wellness department and Diabetes Dayton training as required. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work setting will be in office and community locations as necessary. Personal vehicle required for travel. Position requires driving to and from locations within the community in all types of weather conditions. Work is generally between agency opening and closing (8am - 4:30pm), Monday through Friday with occasional evenings and Saturdays. QUALIFICATIONS: Registered dietitian licensed to work as an RD in the State of Ohio. Experience in both clinical and community settings preferred but not required. The RD is accountable for his/her own professional development and practice within the scope of care defined by law. Position requires professional liability insurance, vehicle available for agency use, valid Ohio driver's license, a good driving record and adequate auto insurance. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES NECESSARY: Knowledge of principles and practices of Medical Nutrition Therapy and specialized knowledge in community health practices and principles and the ability to apply knowledge to individuals and groups. Thorough knowledge (or ability to learn) contract and Medicare requirements for medical nutrition therapy. Knowledge of workings of community organizations and their resources as they are related to client health. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Problem-solving skills. Ability to utilize and teach nutrition therapy in a patient-centered approach including assessment, intervention and evaluation. Ability to accept responsibility and accountability, understand professional, legal and moral limitations. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, staff members, community health and social services agencies. Ability to educate adults in group and individual settings. Ability to organize priorities when competing demands occur, and to work in fast-paced environment with numerous timeframes and deadlines.
