Principle Accountabilities:
· Analyze current manufacturing processes to identify inefficiencies and recommend automation opportunities.
· Perform regular maintenance, troubleshooting, and upgrades on automated equipment to minimize downtime.
· Conduct system testing and validation to ensure reliability, accuracy, and safety.
· Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including design, production, and quality assurance, to ensure automation aligns with business goals.
· Stay updated on emerging technologies, trends, and best practices in manufacturing automation.
· Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and company policies.
· Troubleshooting & Maintenance
o Diagnose and resolve complex electrical and PLC control issues on production equipment including servo motion and SIL3 safety systems.
o Provide mechanical troubleshooting support when required to minimize downtime.
o Utilize electrical schematics to aid in circuit tracing and diagnostics.
· Programming & Controls
o Write, modify, and optimize PLC programs for maximum equipment performance and safety.
o Develop new PLC programs from scratch for new machinery or system integrations.
o Manage PLC program version control and maintain secure access for 50+ users.
o Create and modify electrical schematics for new and existing systems.
· Upgrades & Projects
o Plan and execute controls-related projects, including upgrades to existing systems and integration of new equipment.
o Develop and maintain project cost estimates and budgets
o Review and approve controls designs for new equipment installations to ensure compliance with facility standards.
o Lead or support PLC and controls upgrades primarily using Rockwell Automation products.
· Software & Licensing
o Manage and maintain Rockwell Automation software licenses to ensure access to all hardware and firmware versions in the facility.
· Collaboration & Communication
o Work closely with operations and production teams to understand needs, communicate solutions, and provide training as needed.
o Partner with maintenance and engineering teams on equipment improvement initiatives.
o Develop and document Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for automated systems and processes.
Knowledge/Skills:
· Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechatronics, or related technical field. An Associate's degree in Industrial Controls, Automation Technology, or similar may be accepted with significant relevant experience.
· Professional certifications such as Rockwell Automation Certified Programmer, ISA Certified Automation Professional (CAP), or equivalent are a strong plus.
· 5+ years of experience in industrial automation, preferably in food manufacturing or a high-speed packaging environment.
· Engineering Technology (ET) and Electronics Engineering Technology (EET) experience strongly preferred.

Our client, a Fortune 500 pharmaceutical company, has engaged GForce Life Sciences to provide a Senior Electrical Engineer. the Professional Engineer (PE) will have expertise in electrical systems including electrical distributed power generation, feeds, distribution, lighting, fire alarm, emergency power, UPS, and low voltage systems. The PE is responsible for overseeing the engineering of these systems for major capital projects and initiatives from conceptualization through programming, design, bidding, construction, commissioning, and close out.
The PE will be responsible for multiple high-complexity projects of diverse scope that require an understanding of state of the art construction techniques and a high level of expertise in electrical systems, as well as rigor in compliance, and the highest standard of care. Science projects include research laboratories, vivarium, pilot scale manufacturing, major scientific equipment, amenity space, outdoor plaza, site lighting, and infrastructure projects.
The PE shall collaborate with the project team to effectively identify innovative solutions and bring clarity to the project process using a sophisticated analytical approach and sound judgement. Core focus areas include defining and meeting project goals for electrical systems, reviewing budgets, schedules, scopes, and quality, as well as risk mitigation and responding to field conditions and construction logistics and challenges.
The PE will be responsible to lead design teams and Construction Managers in both the pre-construction due diligence, design and scoping process with a focus on quality management, project controls, and user engagement as well as leading their teams through the bidding and construction administration process with a focus on field coordination, commissioning, substantial completion and close out.
Responsibilities
Assists the Project Management team in developing the budget and schedule for design and construction projects, including renovations and green field projects.
Works closely with Project Management, Engineering, Space Planning, EHS, Operations, and User teams to fully and rigorously document the electrical system requirements in the Owner's Project Requirements document.
Performs preliminary due diligence explorations of existing electrical systems during project initiation to identify any potential risks to the project and any opportunities for improving the building systems of existing buildings.
Assists the Project Manager and Procurement in the development of scopes of work for design professionals, construction managers, general contractors and commissioning agent RFPs. Assist in the evaluation and bid leveling of proposals.
Participates in regular project meetings.
Works directly with hired MEP engineers, consultants, and contractors to answer questions, resolve issues and develop solutions.
Provides supervision for all stages of the development and documentation of electrical requirements for lab and other equipment for the project. Collaborates with the Project Management team, internal engineers, end users, the Asset Management team, EHS, design professionals, lab equipment vendors, design professionals and contractors to ensure that all electrical system requirements for the equipment are met.
Provides detailed reviews of and comments on due diligence reports, test fits, Basis of Design documents, room data sheets, construction documents and specifications prepared by the design professionals, checking for thoroughness, accuracy and compliance with the project requirements, design and documentation standards and minimize errors and omissions.
Identifies long lead time equipment for potential Early Works purchasing by the contractor

We are seeking an experienced Controls Engineer for our First Quality Products facility located in McElhattan, PA.
This position is primarily responsible for specifying, designing, implementing, and upgrading complex controls systems and software programming on production equipment and associated machinery. Provides mentorship and assists Controls Engineers and Technicians in solving complex problems. Will have a direct link to plant performance results through machine improvements and engineering-based upkeep.
Principal Accountabilities/ Responsibilities:
Collaborates with internal Engineering Teams, Maintenance and Production personnel, OEMs, vendors, and contractors to design, install, commission, and start up new equipment and process controls. This includes electrical and controls component selection and approval, electrical design approval, software assessments & modifications, machine acceptance testing and problem identification and resolution.
Responsible for specifying and/or designing DCS's, PLC's, HMI's, servo systems, motors, drives, sensors, vision sensors, and data collection systems based on the FQ controls standards criteria. Evaluates electrical equipment from multiple sources and recommends the best solution for use.
Assesses, designs, and makes complex program modifications in DCS's, PLC logic, HMI programs and servo controller logic to improve individual equipment and overall system performance.
Performs high level troubleshooting, in-depth critical thinking, and utilizes all internal & external resources to solve any electrical, mechanical, or process problem. Leads & assists others in troubleshooting equipment, controls components and control programs
Works with internal MES team to develop and maintain machine data collection within the business
Ability to lead small capital projects
Expected to keep abreast of new controls technologies, industry trends, health and safety regulations and standards that affect current operations.
Proactively identifies opportunities to increase production operation performance. Initiates, leads, and oversees improvement projects through completion.
Provides technical and operation training to Controls team, Production, Warehouse, and other personnel as needed. Shares knowledge and techniques with team members and coordinates the training of personnel to enhance troubleshooting skills

Education and experience requirements:
Bachelor's degree in the following degrees or related degrees: Electro-Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation Engineering, Robotics Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering.
Can create and modify schematic drawings using AutoCAD software.
Minimum of 8 years' experience with Industrial Controls Systems. Advanced knowledge of electrical theory and principles of operation.
Advanced knowledge of PLC based hardware and software (Rockwell and Siemens), Servo Control, and HMI.
Knowledge of Mechanical, Pneumatic, and Hydraulic systems
Formal Training in Functional Machine Safety and proper safe machine design through Safety Risk Assessment.
Knowledge or formal training in Security in Automation (ISO 62443)
Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt (preferred but not required)
Root Cause Analysis Experience (preferred but not required)
