Seeking a Materials Science Co-Op to assist materials research in Tube Fittings Division (TFD) of Parker Hannifin Corporation in Columbus, OH. The student will work closely with the Materials Science Engineer to support development of new products, quality, and processing improvement of current products.
Essential Responsibility
* Perform mechanical tests of a variety of properties including hardness, tensile, fracture toughness et al.
* Prepare and analyze metallographic samples for ferrous and non-ferrous alloys
* Assist failure analysis on products from testing and field application
* Conduct chemical analysis to measure the chemical composition of alloys
* Collect, analyze, and summarize data to support professional test reports
* Maintain a safe testing environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations
* Help with other miscellaneous engineering tasks
Qualifications:
Education and Experience
* Finish at least 2 years education toward a bachelor's degree in Materials Science or other related engineering disciplines
* Experience in materials testing laboratory environment preferred
* GPA of 3.0 or higher
* Must be a U.S. Citizen

Intern project assignments are focused on our World Class Manufacturing methodology and could be in areas such as:

Tasks
This position is full-time and works approximately 40 hours per week, with occasional overtime on weekdays and/or weekends. Under the direction of the Manufacturing Supervisor and/or designated Trainer, successfully complete a 2-year program which will help the candidate obtain a Kennametal Certified CNC Machinist certificate. The Apprentice Machinist will be responsible to setup, produce, troubleshoot, and verify that parts conform to drawings, processes, and procedures. You learn about industry standards and regulations, materials used in production, safety policies, formula calculations, proper documentation, and appropriate communication with the manufacturer. The Apprentice will be required to be versatile within a production environment and learn the various equipment as required.
Expectations
Candidates will be required to complete 4,000 hours of on-the-job training and take additional hours of related instruction via a specified online CNC Machining platform. Successful candidates must have the willingness and ability to learn, read, follow, and interpret drawings, processes and procedures. Training will be focused on setting up machining jobs efficiently on the manufacturing floor. Applicant must possess intermediate math skills, ability to communicate with others, and engage in process improvements. Appropriately use all inspection equipment and sample features to verify conformance as required. Follow safety procedures as required and be a positive Team Member that has the drive and initiative to help the business grow.

Compensation:
This is an hourly non-exempt role. The salary range for this role and market is between $33,000 - $41,000 annually. Factors that may affect the starting salary include geography/market and the individual's tenure, performance, skills, education, experience, and other qualifications of the successful candidate. Employees in this role are not eligible for a bonus but do earn overtime when they work more than 40 hours in a week (or as otherwise required by state law).

The Parker Accounting Internship Program is focused on the development of new talent by exposing interns to the dynamic and challenging field of corporate and manufacturing accounting.
