Job Summary:
Accountable for performing a variety of qualitative and quantitative laboratory tests, both manual and automated, of varying complexity to be utilized in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Other duties include: responsibility for documentation of all activities, monitoring supplies; compliance with all regulatory and accreditation requirements related to safety and laboratory testing; face to face and telephone customer service; computer data entry and retrieval; workplace cleanliness and maintenance. Follows all laboratory and hospital policies and procedures.
Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Analyzes patient samples and evaluates the reliability of test results according to age, gender, and specimen acceptability criteria prior to releasing information for use in patient care and treatment. Performs calibration procedures, and analyzes and verifies the acceptability of Quality Control values prior to analyzing patient samples. Participates in assigned proficiency surveys, performance improvement activities, and mandatory continuing education programs. Performs and documents routine maintenance and minor instrument repairs. Performs Laboratory and Hospital Information Systems (LIS and HIS) computer functions involved in preanalytic, analytic, and postanalytic processes. What you will do:
- Assists the physician with imaging during diagnosis and treatment of Cardiac Cath lab patients of diverse ages. Ensures quality of imaging and image acquisition, DSA, and hemodynamic monitoring. Ensures radiation safety practices are used for patients and personnel.

· Two years of related experience required.

As a Lab Assistant at MercyOne, you may work in various laboratory departments to collect blood specimens from hospital patients, work with microbiology or anatomic pathology specimens, or work independently at remote Patient Service Centers. Creates patient encounters, orders laboratory tests, and prepares specimens for testing. Assists technical personnel in sample log-in, testing workflow, and specimen tracking, as appropriate for patient age including neonates, infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric adults.
Accurately and efficiently performs venipunctures, and finger sticks ensuring collection of proper specimens for testing and ensuring patient safety.
Prepares specimens for testing.
Accepts specimens and requisitions from external and internal customers utilizing excellent customer service skills.
Identifies patients/specimens using two unique patient identifiers and accurately labels specimen containers.
Correctly registers specimens and logs into Laboratory Information System (LIS) appropriate to department where testing is to be performed as needed, or evaluates specimen adequacy and acceptability and logs into LIS.
Performs specimen processing as needed. For example, proper identification, aliquoting, plate streaking, preparing slides, special handling, and required documentation.
Follows established procedures and policies including infection control and bloodborne pathogens.
Handles chemicals according to established safety protocols.
Meets defined workload productivity standards. Supports and utilizes LEAN principles.
Works proficiently with laboratory information systems and personal computers.
Follows established procedures and policies to obtain optimal test turn-around-times.
Participates in teaching peers.
Handles incoming and outgoing telephone calls utilizing good customer service skills and knowledge of the laboratory.
Follows up on and documents out of range temperatures.

General Requirements:
Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to population served within 3 months of hire.
Knowledge of medical terminology and laboratory experience preferred.

Fills supply request for outlying areas.
Acts as a resource person by answering questions concerning test requirements and handling.
Maintains a clean and organized work area.
Understands and utilizes various computer programs related to their job (Optimaxx, AS400, etc.).
Answers incoming phone calls to the Core Lab main number.
Performs various other clerical duties including but not limited to filing, faxing and photocopying as needed.
Understands general registration procedures including why and when new account numbers need to be assigned.
Hours/Schedule: Second shift rotating start times (1pm-930pm and 2pm-1030pm). Every other weekend and holiday rotation.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Sleep Study Procedures Follow procedural protocols [such as Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT), Maintenance of Wakefulness Test (MWT), parasomnia studies, PAP and oxygen titration, etc.] to ensure collection of appropriate data. Perform appropriate physiological calibrations to ensure proper signals and make required adjustments. Follow lights out procedures to establish and document baseline values (such as body position, oxyhemoglobin saturation, respiratory and heart rates, etc.). Perform data acquisition while monitoring study‐tracing quality to ensure signals are artifact‐free. Identify, correct and document artifact. Document routine observations, including sleep stages and clinical events, changes in procedure, and other significant events in order to facilitate scoring and interpretation of polysomnographic results. Generate accurate reports by tabulating sleep/wake and clinical event data. Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize and provide age specific care in the treatment, assessment, and education of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to perform portable monitoring equipment preparation and data download.
