1835

In 1835, the concept of loss prevention was widely unheard of.

Founded in 1835, FM Global uses a unique business model based on the belief the majority of property losses are preventable, not inevitable.

1874

When the fire sprinkler was introduced in 1874, Factory Mutuals championed its acceptance.

1987

By 1987, 42 mutual companies had joined forces to become three companies.

1999

In 1999, those three insurance companies merged to form FM Global to offer even greater insurance capacity and loss prevention engineering services to client owners.

2003

Ground is broken for the new FM Global Research Campus, which opens in 2003.

2004

Approval Standard for Evaluating the Simulated Wind Uplift Resistance of Roof Assemblies, ANSI/FM 4474-2004 is adopted by ANSI.

2009

In 2009, FM Global broadened the capability of its large-scale fire test laboratory at the Research Campus and designed a new 72,000-square-foot (6,700-square-meter) natural hazards laboratory.

2012

Two years later, in 2012, the company created an Asia/Pacific division based in Singapore to support the growth of its mutual policyholders in locations in the Asia/Pacific region.

2014

Then, in 2014, the annual FM Global Resilience Index was launched, the first data-driven tool to rank 130 countries and territories around the world according to the resilience of their business environments.

2016

In 2016, FM Global was named one of “America’s Best Employers” by Forbes magazine.

2020

The proof of concept began on April 6, 2020, with a class of 20 engineers from around the globe.
