Overview of Responsibilities The Assistant Store Manager must be familiar with all the departments and department-related activities throughout the store, and assists the Store Manager in ensuring cleanliness, safety and a well-stocked inventory. The Assistant Store Manager also assists with forecasts, schedules, and monitors labor to be consistent with store sales and productivity guidelines and wage budgets; and creates action plans to address cost control issues. This position directs, oversees, and evaluates the training of all perishable department Team Members in order to reduce and control turnover, promote more efficient operations and to provide better control over labor costs. Developing and maintaining communication with the other departments and Store Manager in the store in order is key in this role to execute merchandising plans which will help to meet the financial objectives of the store. Qualifications To be a SUP Assistant Store Manager at Sprouts Farmers Market you must: * Obtain or be in pursuit of a Bachelor's Degree (targeting May 2025 through May 2026 graduates) * Have retail experience or project exposure to the retail industry * Be dependable and reliable, having the ability to work a flexible schedule that changes as the business changes; including nights, weekends and holidays as well as having flexibility with store assignments. * Have strong written and verbal communication skills, the ability to give direction, while participating in a team environment. * Have and show an outgoing and friendly behavior along with a positive attitude and the ability to interact with our customers in an engaging manner. * Be able to manage department staff to include: interviewing, hiring, training and development, delivering on-time performance appraisals, providing feedback, scheduling, counseling and terminating. * Possess a proven leadership ability to build, motivate and maintain staff, while possessing a working knowledge of personnel reports, margin reports, weekly sales numbers and financial goals. * Have a strong focus on detail, analytical and problem solving skills. Be able to coordinate sales promotion activities and prepare/supervise preparation of merchandise displays and advertising copy. * Be responsible for compliance ensuring dates on merchandise, such as dairy products, meats, and baked goods, are checked and expired food pulled off the shelves on a regular basis pursuant to Sprouts procedures. * Have the ability to deal with emergencies, crises, and any problems which crop up during the day in the store, writing reports for accidents or other incidents such as when employees or customers are hurt within the store or in the parking lot and processes according to company procedures. * Have and maintain Food Safety certification. Must also ensure that all federal, state, and company regulations and standards for all labor, health, safety and sanitation issues in order to maintain a safe and clean work environment for employees and customers to ensure compliance with all OSHA requirements, other governmental regulations and company standards. * Have strong organization and planning skills; able to prioritize and handle multiple tasks. * Have the ability to lift moderately heavy loads up to 75 lbs., the ability to bend, reach, kneel, squat and stand for long periods of time. Report discrepancies to the appropriate supplier as needed. * Lead Receivers and backroom organization, cleanliness, and safety. * Help build and maintain displays on the sales floor, compliant with company programs and standards. * Verify all products are fresh, labeled, and priced accurately. * Oversee price changes and remain up to date on sale prices. Qualifications * Be at least 21 years of age. * Have a high school diploma or equivalent, a degree in business management, marketing, retailing, communications, advertising, or related field preferred. * 1-3 years of retail experience; or an acceptable combination of education and experience. * Have demonstrated success leading non-perishable and perishable department operations with integrity, including profit and loss, safety, sanitation, staffing, disciplinary actions, training, developing leaders, conducting performance appraisals, meeting deadlines, managing inventory and shrink, executing sales promotions, and merchandising. * Professional communication skills, both written and verbal, along with attention to detail, analytical, and solution-focused decisiveness. * Be proficient in Microsoft Office, bookkeeping/accounting, time and attendance, and human resources software. * Be flexible to work a schedule that changes based on business needs, including nights, weekends, and holidays. * Have and maintain Food Safety certification. * Able to lift 60 pounds between 15 inches and 70 inches above the ground, lifting heavier items is required occasionally. * Pushing and pulling racks and U-boats of merchandise is common throughout a typical day. Push and pull force required ranges from 80 pounds to 100 pounds. * Stand on hard surfaces continuously, walk up to 2 miles, reach vertically to access upper levels, and transfer items horizontally. * Wear PPE consistent with the task assignment, including but not limited to non-slip, closed-toe shoes, long pants, and gloves (latex and or cut-resistant). * Tools and equipment used include, but are not limited to, phone, computer, mouse, keyboard, ovens, freezers, meat and cheese cutters, grinders, scales, mixers, box cutters, scanners, cash register, carts, and pallet jacks. Keep safes locked at all times. * Accountable for security of all safe combinations, keys, and numbers entrusted to you at all times. * See that all cash, deposits and pick-ups are properly handled. * Cash and approve checks and monitor check cashing and tendering procedure making sure they are correctly followed. * Promote use of ValuCard. * Monitor and enforce coupon handling procedures. * Monitor supply usage. * Promote and maintain good housekeeping on the front end including: * Clean check stands * Clean store fronts (inside and out) * Keep shopping carts clean and litter free * Keep parking lot free of debris and stray shopping carts * Keep adequate number of shopping carts on front end at all times. * Know and enforce company dress code policies including proper use of name tags. * Ensure that all funds are maintained and secured. * Follow all policies and procedures regarding any and all rental equipment * Know, follow, and enforce all state and local laws, as well as company policies and procedures regarding the sale of alcoholic beverages, tobacco products, and any other age restricted products * Know, follow and enforce all federal and state laws and company procedures regarding WIC and processing of EWIC. * Maintain and enforce all policies and procedures for Charge Accounts, Debit/Credit/EFS/EBT/Gift Cards/EWIC/Tax Exempt. * Assist in maintaining the proper inventory levels of all items for sale in customer service area and candy racks. * Follow and enforce proper procedures for handling two-party checks and authorized payroll check procedures including check fees. * Follow and enforce all policies and proper procedures on banking and armored car services. * Follow proper procedures for the sale of Money Transfers, Money Orders, Postage Stamps, Coin Machines, Hunting and Fishing License, Rentals, Promotional Tickets and Lottery/Lotto tickets. * Ensure that all front end associates take all breaks and lunches as scheduled. * Verify all funds received from bank in accordance with company policies and procedures or armored car services. * Answer and facilitate all incoming phone calls. * Know, follow, and enforce all company policies regarding child labor laws. * Assist in giving produce tests to authorized cash register operators on weekly basis. * Assist in keeping checkout lines moving as fast as possible. * Assist cashiers in unloading the bottom of shopping carts. * Know, follow, and enforce all anti-money laundering (AML) policies and money service business (MSB) compliance. * Other duties may be assigned as needed. Job Summary: The Designated Assistant Store Manager is an Associate who may hold another main job responsibility in the store (ex. Head Cashier), but whom the Store Manager has designated as an Assistant Manager to be in complete control of the store in the absence of the Store Manager and Assistant Store Manager. This associate must have completed the Designated Assistant Manager Training Program. Duties include managing the overall daily operations of the grocery department and assist Store Manager in managing of entire store location. Responsible for the grocery department budgeted sales goals as well as budgeted gross and net profit goals. Keeping controllable costs such as labor, supplies, expenses, etc. at expected levels. Supervise, lead, and develop grocery and store personnel. Help to ensure a customer service oriented environment that is friendly, properly staffed and well trained. Maintain quality and freshness of product, well-stocked grocery departments and cleanliness of the total store. Assist in increasing store sales with strong merchandising skills and promotions. Serving as a leader for the store location in all aspects of business and being a good neighbor to the community in which this store is located. Ensure that all policy and procedure is followed for the safety and security of grocery department, as well as all other associates, customers, and company. Essential Job Functions: * Provide exceptional service for customers through maintaining a strong grocery management team, quality grocery associates, and planning adequate coverage through scheduling. * Understand and promote company benefits including ESOP, 401k, insurance, etc. * Make recommendations on hiring and termination of associates to maintain staffed grocery departments. * Ensure required department and computer based training to increase retention of quality associates. * Assist Store Manager in ensuring all aspects of company policy and procedures in regards to good business and department practices are followed. * Oversee and follow all safety and security measures including theft and/or robbery. * Interact professionally with management team, associates, supervision, and customers. * Enforce fund-handling procedures for safety and loss prevention necessity including bank deposits, safe deposits, gas and go fund transport * Responsible for assisting Store Manager in monitoring and overseeing the enforcement of all local, state, federal, and company labor guidelines for all associates including associates under the age of 18. * Oversee and monitor policy in regards to the sale of alcohol and tobacco products. * Completing and sending of vital grocery department reports, documents, and paperwork via written, verbal, or e-mail to the appropriate persons as deemed by supervision and/or policy. * Take part in weekly and/or monthly meetings with department heads and/or department associates, including Feelings meetings and Exceptional Service meetings. * Utilize time management skills and prioritization to accomplish tasks through grocery management team and associates. * Maintain adequate inventory levels in grocery departments as to incur few out-of-stocks, but with limited days supply on hand. * Oversee and monitor accurate retail pricing, receiving and invoicing within guidelines. * Responsible for back room conditions including set-up and slotting of merchandise. * Responsible for dairy cooler and walk-in freezer conditions and inventory levels. * Responsible for enforcing age limitations pertaining to use of baler, pallet jacks and scrubber. * Accountable for inventories and shrink controls in grocery departments. * Assist Store Manager in monitoring competitive price checks on critical items such as fuel, milk, and soft drinks. * Must listen to and help resolve complaints or issues brought to the attention of the management team from supervision, associates, management team, and customers and report issues to Store Manager or District Manager. * Understand and enforce all local and state health department rules and practices as well as federal OSHA guidelines and company HACCP policy. * Help to maintain necessary government documents and postings to assure compliance. * Understand and follow all LP policy including CCTV observations, security logs, and shoplifting handling procedures. * Understand and follow confidentiality policy in regards to company information as well as personnel information. * Understand and enforce policy in regards to refrigeration alarms. * Other duties as required.
