What You'll Do:
The Facilities & Sanitation Associate is responsible for performing routine scheduled facility cleaning and maintenance, including but not limited to: trash collection, sweeping, dusting, washing floors/dump bin/shelves/barrels/balers, restroom cleaning, charging equipment, loading and sorting pallets, baling cardboard and assisting with pest control programs.
* Maintain the facility by supporting each department with sanitation and cleanliness needs
* Perform duties on the Master Cleaning Schedule for daily, monthly, annual and "as needed" tasks
* Adhere to food safety and quality assurance policies and procedures
* Complete cleaning schedule logs and equipment checklists
* Perform minor repairs to some equipment, as well as light warehouse maintenance
* Receive and perform additional cleaning/leveling assignments as necessary
* Maintain a clean and organized work area
* Perform functions, accountabilities and supporting activities while complying with safety procedures, rules and regulations including GMP guidelines
* Lifts 30-40 lbs frequently
Requirements

Penn State University Park Residential Dining is searching for a full time Housing and Food Services Relief Worker to join their team. Duties include:
* The Housing and Food Services Relief Worker performs a variety of routine, unskilled tasks on a fill-in basis primarily to provide for granting employee requests for short-term use of accumulated vacation (including compensatory time and personal holidays) each year during the September to May period, excluding final cleanup periods (except for cases of extreme emergency), in Food Service dining halls at University Park
* The relief worker can fill in for an employee other than the employee requesting vacation, if temporary transfer or other arrangements cover the requesting employee's work
* This will necessitate that days on and days off and shifts will vary upon assignment
* During periods when the employees are not scheduled to fill in for vacation they will be assigned other routine, unskilled tasks in any other Housing and Food Services areas
* The variety of tasks performed are unskilled and routine in nature requiring minimal previous job training
* The employees follow simple oral or written instructions, including standardized recipes, and are expected to perform a sequence of events, methods and procedures, as they become more familiar with the work
* They are expected to use some judgment to make minor decisions
* While some tasks performed may be found in higher grade jobs, the tasks themselves are routine and are at the unskilled grade 10 level
* The tasks performed require light physical effort in performing a variety of routine, unskilled assignments

SUMMARY OF POSITION
Prepares menu items according to company policies, procedures, programs and performance standards. Responsible for helping to maintain food costs and maintain cleanliness of the kitchen at all times. Controls Food Cost
Ensures products are accurately portioned and ensures food products are prepared as specified by recipes.
Utilizes FIFO (first in first out) standards when preparing items.
Maintains Cleanliness
Maintains cleanliness of the kitchen, prep areas, coolers and storage areas
Follows proper safety procedures and policies concerning food handling, rotation and storage
Conducts line sweeps throughout the shift
“Clean as you go” throughout the shift
Understands OSHA requirements and health department standards
Cleans all equipment on line and other areas as directed by the Kitchen manager or Manager on duty.
Anticipates, identifies and corrects system breakdowns to achieve maximum guest satisfaction.
Communicates with Manager on Duty and coworkers regarding product/service deficiencies, equipment, safety problems. Etc.

Duties and Responsibilities
* Washing pots, pans, and other preparatory utensils.

FOODPREPARATION:

* Complete all basic cooking techniques such as steaming, baking, boiling, deep fat frying, grilling, mixing, and other similar cooking techniques that would arise in a normal commercial kitchen.
* Complete all basic techniques that may arise in a bakery such as greasing pans, icing cakes, filling muffin tins, filling pie shells and any other basic techniques that would arise in a normal commercial bakery.
* Unload carts and trucks of food products weighing up to 40 lbs.
* Push and pull typical food service industry carts containing food products. When assigned to Receiving, the food service worker 1 will be frequently lifting 30 to 40 pounds. This will be required approximately sixty percent (60%) or more of the scheduled hours in Receiving.
* Read and understand basic recipes and reports used in the food service operation.
* Work safely with basic food service equipment such as knives, slicers, and mixers.
SAFETY
* Work safely by using Personal Protective Equipment, maintaining equipment, following safety procedures and policies, etc.
* Leave the work area clean and functional at the end of shift
* Be aware of and report any potential safety hazards to supervisor or management immediately
* Cooperate with safety investigations and audits

* Prepare machines for operations; report malfunctions to supervisor; drain and clean machines

* Return all food, dishes, utensils, etc. , to kitchen when serving line is closed

* Clean, sweep, mop, wax and buff, strip, seal and vacuum assigned areas following daily and weekly periodic cleaning schedules
* Use ladders and scaffolding in the cleaning of windows, ceilings, walls and light fixtures; also replace light bulbs, when necessary
* Clean various locations, such as offices, kitchen areas, snack bars, serving pantry, linen room, restrooms, receiving dock, garbage areas, elevators, storerooms, stairwells, etc.
* Collect and remove refuse, garbage, etc. , to designated locations; operate incinerators and disposals, as required
* Assist the storeroom worker by receiving, checking, storing, and delivering incoming food and supplies, etc.
* Mark containers with date received; report discrepancies such as short orders to storeroom worker or supervisor
* Maintain all work areas in clean and orderly conditions
* Make minor adjustments, such as tightening screws, adjusting belts, replacing cotter keys, screws, etc.
* Report any malfunction or damage to equipment, furnishings or facilities to supervisor
* Clear tables and remove dishes to dishroom or conveyer belt
Job Requirements: Requires the use of simple writing, adding, subtracting, whole numbers and the carrying out of instructions; and the use of fixed gauges and direct reading instruments and devices in which interpretation is not required. Up to 3 months of effective experience.
