Purpose Statement: The job of Server is done for the purpose/s of distributing food items for consumption by students and school personnel, and processing receipts; collecting payments for food items, and maintaining facilities in a sanitary condition. Essential Functions Assists student helpers for the purpose of providing instructions and guidance for performing their job functions. Cleans utensils, equipment, the storage, food preparation and serving areas for the purpose of maintaining sanitary conditions. Inspects food items for the purpose of verifying quantity and specifications and/or complying with health department requirements. Loads carts for the purpose of ensuring that equipment is returned to production site. Monitors the kitchen (e.g. spill, hazards, food handling and temperature, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring a safe work environment and complying with department standards. Prepares records for the purpose of identifying excess food items. Processes daily receipts for the purpose of ensuring accuracy of information and preparing monies for delivery. Receives carts at assigned sites for the purpose of assisting in unloading as needed. Responds to inquiries of students, staff and the public for the purpose of providing information on meal pricing, menus, etc. Serves one or more items of food for the purpose of meeting mandated nutritional requirements and/or requests of students and school personnel. Other Functions Assists other personnel as required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities. Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications Skills, Knowledge and Abilities SKILLS are required to perform multiple, non-technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adhering to safety practices and utilizing equipment used in quantity food service. KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; understand written procedures, write routine documents, and speak clearly; and understand multi-step written and oral instructions. Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes: health standards and hazards, quantity cooking, and safety practices and procedures. ABILITY is required to schedule activities; gather and/or collate data; and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with data utilizing specific, defined processes; and operate equipment using defined methods. Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals; work with specific, job-related data; and utilize job-related equipment. In working with others, some problem solving may be required to identify issues and select action plans. Problem solving with data may require independent interpretation; and problem solving with equipment is limited. Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: communicating with diverse groups, establishing effective relationships, working as part of a team, meeting deadlines and schedules, and working with frequent interruptions. Responsibility Responsibilities include: working under direct supervision using standardized procedures; providing information and/or advising others; and operating within a defined budget.
