JOB DESCRIPTION Grossmont Union High School District FOOD SERVICE ASSISTANT I Purpose Statement: The job of Food Service Assistant I is done for the purpose/s of preparing and distributing food items for consumption by students and school personnel and maintaining facilities in a sanitary condition. Incumbents in this classification provide students and staff with clean and sanitary facilities which directly support learning. This job reports to Director, Food Services Essential Functions • Arranges food and beverage items (e.g. placing in steam tables, displaying, filling racks, etc.) for the purpose of making them available to students and staff. • Cleans utensils, equipment, and the storage, food preparation and serving areas for the purpose of maintaining sanitary conditions. • Collects payments for food items (e.g. cash, free/reduced meal offset, etc.) for the purpose of securing funds for reimbursement of items selected. • Inspects food items and/or supplies for the purpose of verifying quantity and specifications of orders and/or complying with mandated health requirements. • Loads carts for the purpose of ensuring that food and/or beverage items are available for delivery to other sites. • Oversees student workers for the purpose of providing guidance in their job functions. • Prepares daily item counts and associated reports for the purpose of providing documentation for items served. • Prepares food and beverage items for the purpose of meeting mandated nutritional and projected meal requirements. • Reconciles cash transactions and item counts for the purpose of balancing financial and daily inventory accounts. • Responds to inquiries of students, staff and the public for the purpose of providing information and/or direction regarding the type and/or cost of meals. • Serves one or more items of food for the purpose of meeting mandated nutritional requirements and/or requests of students and school personnel. • Stocks food, condiments and supplies (e.g. checks for expiration dates, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining adequate quantities and security of items. • Transports food items, supplies and/or equipment to various satellite school cafeterias and other off-campus locations for the purpose of delivering requested items to designated sites in a timely manner. Other Functions • Assists in preparing food items (e.g. main dishes, salads, fruits, sandwiches, cookies, cakes, bread, rolls, etc.) for the purpose of meeting mandated nutritional and projected meal requirements. • Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment. Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications SKILLS are required to perform multiple, non-technical tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Set up equipment. Takedown equipment. Keeping equipment clean during operations. Add donut batter to hopper over hot fryer. Making mini donuts on site. Clean up equipment. Ensure prompt and accurate processing of food in your station. Regular maintenance and cleaning of equipment and utensils used. Maintain health and safety standards to regulations. Coordinate with other team members to complete orders timely and accurately. Qualifications Knowledge of allergens, gluten, and related dietary restrictions. Interpersonal Skills Friendly Outgoing Speak loudly and clearly to be heard over machinery. Fryer experience is required. Comfortable working with hot oil. Food Handlers Permit (required). Selling and upselling skills. Must be fluent in English. Smile and greet customers with “Welcome to Chani's Donuts”. Self-starter look for things that need to be done and do them. Ability to maintain composure and professionalism in a fast-paced environment. Hair should be pulled back, clean and well-kept. Grooming and Dress Shirts must cover shoulders, 2” of upper arms, and 2” below your belt or pant line. Shirts must be in good condition, and have a finished seam on the sleeves, hemline, and collar (not ripped, thread-bare, or dirty). No logos or images on shirts other than Chani's Donuts. Pants (including shorts when allowed) must sit above hip bones and must be in good condition (not ripped, thread-bare, or dirty) Shorts, if allowed, must be 2” longer than the tips of fingers on thighs and in good condition as noted above. Facial piercings must be removed or covered. Small earrings in the earlobe is acceptable. Tattoos must be covered.
