The FoodServiceWorker - Cashier greets guests as they enter the dining hall. The cashier swipes student ID cards, takes cash from guests, communicates about the menu, and implements dining hall policies concerning take-out meals. Providing great customer service is a key element of this job.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Reporting to the General Manager of Bon Appetit, this position performs the following essential duties and responsibilities:
Greet every customer with a smile and a warm welcome. Swipe student ID cards and take cash from paying guests, as well as answer questions about the daily menu.
Understand and follow proper cash procedures as trained. Count cash bank and verify opening balance on cash reconciliation work sheet, count out the cash sales from the meal and complete the cash reconciliation work sheet. Deposit all sales with the Dining Hall Manager and receive verifying signature.
Maintain a clean and organized environment at the cashier station, including cleaning doors before and after opening, wiping down tables and chairs as appropriate.
Ensure that all signage and menus are in their proper place and well presented prior to opening for the meal service. Ensure that the checker's desk is neat and well presented.
Ensure To Go items are stocked before service and removed after.
Wipe down tables and chairs before/after the meal service. Sweep, mop, and vacuum the dining area maintaining the cleanliness of the dining area.
Follow proper food preparation and sanitation directives as established by the Health Department. Comply with internal policies and procedures as they apply to food, sanitation, and safety within the Dining Hall department. This includes, but is not limited to, keeping work area clean, properly/safely using equipment and keeping floor free of food/liquid that may be a potential safety hazard, and adhering to assigned work schedule.
Other duties may be assigned as appropriate. This includes daily, weekly, monthly cleaning, and cross training as time permits.
Regular attendance is considered an essential job function; the inability to meet attendance requirements may preclude the employee from retaining employment.

Position Title: Kitchen Assistant
Employment Classification: 10 Month, Part-time, Non-exempt
Shift: Part-time, hours will be approximately 8am - 1pm, Monday - Friday.
Reports to: FoodService Supervisor
Position Summary: Under the general supervision of the FoodService Supervisor, assist with preparing and serving meals to students during nutrition breaks.
Requirements
Major Areas of Responsibility:
Assist in inventory control and receiving, check-in and sorting of all meal deliveries.
Assist in the preparation and cooking of food.
Clean and store cafeteria equipment and food supplies.
Clean work areas and dispose of refuse.
Perform related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.
Knowledge, Skill and Experience Requirements:
Bilingual English-Spanish (reading, writing, and speaking) required.
Valid Food Handlers card required.
Basic methods of food preparation.
Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
Possess a valid California driver's license and proof of automobile insurance. Position requires DMV clearance.
Must be able to pass criminal background screening, FBI/DOJ fingerprinting, TB test, and drug test.

Working Environment:
Primarily the school kitchen, with some work performed outside and in the kitchen office. The noise level in the kitchen can be loud. Possible exposure to very hot foods, equipment, and metal objects. Work will be performed around knives, slicers or other sharp objects. Possible exposure to cleaning chemicals and fumes. Possible exposure to cold due to refrigerators and freezers.
Physical Requirements:
Standing for extended periods of time. Hearing and speaking to exchange information. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate foodservice equipment. Reaching overhead, above shoulders and horizontally. Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching.
Modification to work schedule may be made based on need of the Academy.

Qualifications
At least 6 months of hands-on food prep experience in a professional, commercial kitchen (1 year preferred)
Experience working both in the kitchen and in dining/service areas; senior living or healthcare foodservice experience is a plus
Ability to follow recipes, instructions, and safety guidelines
Professional, dependable, and respectful of resident privacy and confidentiality
Reliable attendance and the ability to arrive on time and work scheduled shifts
