    Shift Schedule: Monday-Friday: 8AM-2PM Hours Per Week: 30 General Responsibilities: Under the supervision of the Program Director or designee, assists in the preparation, cooking and serving of meals while ensuring adherence to sanitary requirements set by the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, NYC Department for the Aging and JASA, as applicable. Specific Duties and Responsibilities: Cleans and pans fresh food and packages cooked food. Serves Congregate and/or Grab-and-Go meals to program participants Moves, unpacks and stores food and supplies. Receives and refrigerates all food items as soon as delivered. Maintains order and cleanliness of food storage. Manages food inventory. In the absence of maintenance staff, may be responsible for cleaning the kitchen, dining room and/or bathrooms. May be required to use knives and other kitchen utensils including but not limited to mechanical kitchen equipment (i.e. meat slicer). May assist in directing activities of volunteers. Performs other related tasks as requested or assigned. Requirements: High School Diploma or G.E.D. preferred. Must be available to participate in coverage of "Cooling Center Hours", “Make Up Days” or other necessary responses for older adult center members when ordered by City funders, which may require working extended hours during the week or weekends. New staff are required to obtain a Food Handler's License within the first 6 months of hire if they do not already have one. Must be computer literate, including ability to learn and use program-specific software. Ability to lift heavy objects, climb stairs and stand for long hours. JASA is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
