This position will also lead and participate in tasks involving litter pick-ups, recycling center maintenance, garden and orchid maintenance, tree planting, recycling/environmental event set-up and break-down and environmental education speaking engagements. Coordinates daily work activities; organizes and prioritizes project tasks; makes work assignments and evaluates work; monitors status of work; troubleshoots problem situations; and performs the duties of supervisor in absence of same. Monitors work environment and use of safety equipment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals; initiates any actions necessary to correct deviations; coordinates setup of work safety zones to maintain safety and traffic control at work sites, including flagging of traffic and setup of safety cones, barricades, and road/warning signs; monitors traffic conditions surrounding trucks/equipment to identify obstructions, pedestrians, or unsafe traffic conditions; and reports any incidents, accidents, problems, or unusual situations. Leads and participates in tasks involving street, roadway, and drainage projects; installs street signs and stop signs; installs reflective markers in streets; and removes debris from sites of vehicle accidents. Assigns work to crew members; supervises site operations; ensures work is performed in a safe and efficient manner and results in quality work products; and responds to limited questions and complaints from citizens, County personnel, and other interested parties regarding project scope, status, and completion. Work requires some independent decisions and judgment while operating under the supervision of a supervisor who occasionally monitors work in progress and inspects work upon completion. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS The following duties are normal for this position.
