Reads and follows plans, material lists and guidelines and applies necessary timelines. Place equipment on trailers for loading and off-loading. Signal or verbally direct workers engaged in hoisting and moving loads, in order to ensure safety. Select gear such as cables, pulleys, and winches, according to load weights and sizes, facilities, and work schedules. Dismantle and store rigging equipment after use Report to customers or managers on the progress of the job, the estimated time left to complete the work and evaluations of employees. Fulfills all regular and advanced installations/construction duties, including project layout, and completes paperwork in a timely manner. Organizes, supervises, leads, and trains employees to complete projects within established guidelines and timeframe. Control movement of heavy equipment through narrow openings or confined spaces, using chain-falls, gin poles, gallows frames, and other equipment. Inspect rigging to ensure safety and reliability. Ensures that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed, brings problems to the attention of the Operations Manager, Superintendent, Safety Director, or HR Representative. Follows daily foreman procedures and protocols as set forth in job orientations and trainings. Displays excellent communication skills including presentation, persuasion, and negotiation skills required in working with coworkers and including the ability to communicate effectively and remain calm and courteous under pressure. Regularly communicates with maintenance staff about repairs and maintenance needs on major pieces of equipment on assigned job. The Construction Foreman takes a hands-on leadership role on the job site ensuring prompt, efficient progress of the work. The Foreman determines priorities for work to be done, sometimes on their own initiative and authority, but more often based on needs communicated by management. Job Duties: Heavy equipment operation - Track hoe, backhoe, (ability to install sheet piling a plus), rental equipment and materials scheduling and call off. Direct and run the project. Communicate to the Installation Manager any specific requirements for completing the project in a safe, timely, and profitable manner. Communicate with the customer or their onsite representative the requirements or issues that may arise on the job site. Ability to read and understand applicable plans and specifications, environmental regulations, fire and building codes that must be enforced on the site. Attend the following meetings (as applicable): Pre-Construction Meetings Safety Meetings Selected training sessions as directed by the Installation Manager Keep accurate daily records on each job. This should include, as a minimum, a record of all tests, inspections, the daily progress on the job, visitors to the job and situations that may affect the schedule in a negative way. Set an example for your crew members by reporting to work on time and in proper uniform. Supervise the daily activities of the crew. Plan for tomorrow. Take opportunities to train the crew so that each member can take on increasing responsibilities. Enforce all mandatory safety rules: Be aware of potential hazards and correct any of these situations. Require the use of the proper personal protective equipment by all crew members and subcontractors. Hold weekly job-site safety meetings. Ensure a positive Company image including the following: The personal appearance of each crew member should be clean and in compliance with Company Policy. Each vehicle must be clean and orderly. The job site should be kept orderly and free of safety hazards. Treat the site as if it is your own property. The job site sign should be kept clean and in good repair. The conduct of each crew member should be professional and courteous. Maintain all vehicles in compliance with departmental preventive maintenance policies. Do not allow unsafe conditions to exist on the vehicles. Vehicles should be washed and cleaned weekly. Operate all vehicles in a safe manner. The landscape construction team leader is an experienced landscaper capable of leading and working as part of a team of two or more team members. The team leader is able to proficiently operate various equipment related to the construction and installation of landscape and hardscape elements. The position requires strong communication skills and the ability to effectively delegate tasks while working as a productive team member. The team leader has a firm understanding of construction techniques and horticultural practices. This position reports to the Production Manager of Install. Completes the necessary paperwork including electronic time tracking, work orders, change orders, material requisitions, and client tickets. Plans and organizes the job, ensuring that sufficient resources and materials are available. Also ensures that job is completed in the most time-efficient manner. Manages a team of two or more employees, including handling personnel issues on site and training employees on policies and procedures. Maintains a clean and safe work environment, including work site and equipment. Briefs Managers and Sales and makes recommendations on job status, personnel issues, or client concerns. Works as a member of the team. Maintains assigned equipment and notifies mechanic/management of needed repairs. Snow removal operations as required Experience and Qualifications This position requires a high school degree or GED. A two or four year degree in a horticultural related discipline is preferred. A minimum of 2 years landscape team leader experience is required without degree. Candidate must be able to read and write. The successful individual will have a working knowledge of standard horticultural and hardscaping practices including natural stone, masonry, pavers, pond, low-voltage lighting, planting, fertilization and irrigation installation and troubleshooting. Strong oral and written communication skills, math skills, job planning skills, and mechanical aptitude are a must. Valid Ohio drivers license Certifications This position may require that the individual become certified within one year of employment in one of the following: Ohio Nursery & Landscaping Association Certification (OCNT); or PLANET Landscape Industry Certified Ohio Driver's License and insurable with company's agent. Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is preferred, but not required.
