About the Role: As a Transit Mechanic, you will be responsible for: Conducting thorough inspections of buses and vehicles. Removing, repairing, and replacing parts and components using tools and equipment safely and professionally. Performing preventative maintenance to keep our fleet in top condition. Maintaining a clean, efficient, and safe shop area. Reading, writing, and performing basic mathematical calculations. Working varied hours to support scheduled operations. Operating vehicles safely and efficiently. Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates the required knowledge and abilities is acceptable. A typical path to acquiring these skills includes: Graduation from a technical school or equivalent. Three (3) years of verifiable mechanical experience. Demonstrated understanding of mechanical principles for diesel and gas engines, fluid systems, electrical systems, powertrains, chassis, and preventative maintenance inspections. Experience with brakes (air/hydraulic), heating, air conditioning, hydraulic systems, and transmissions. Must possess a valid Drivers License and be able to obtain and maintain a valid Class B CDL with Passenger endorsement, issued by the Arkansas Department of Motor Vehicles, or a Commercial Learner's Permit (CLP). ORT offers free in-house CDL training. Must meet all Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and Department of Transportation (DOT) standards, including criminal background requirements for safety-sensitive positions.
