A DAY IN THE LIFE OF AN ARCTIC CONSTRUCTION FOREMAN
In this seasonal skilled trade position, you keep our team safe and warm by constructing and maintaining buildings at our remote field station. You coordinate and supervise a team of skilled trade craftsmen, working alongside them to complete jobs on time.
Relying on your years of carpentry and building experience, you read blueprints, plan out projects, and complete material take-offs. Since you keep careful track of our inventory, you always know exactly which materials we have on hand. Throughout the projects, you create redlines and as-builts when needed. Working in a remote location presents unique challenges, but you've never been one to back down from a challenge. You're having the adventure of a lifetime!
QUALIFICATIONS FOR AN ARCTIC CONSTRUCTION FOREMAN
We're looking for an adaptable person with great communication skills who has the following qualifications:
6+ years of extensive carpentry experience, including design, rough framing, and finish carpentry
2+ years as a carpentry foreman, lead, or supervisor
Experience working with and leading a diverse skilled trade team
Proficiency with Microsoft Office
Familiarity with OSHA standards and safety requirements
Ability to work in extreme temperatures
Willingness to drive a snowmobile and other polar vehicles
Valid passport and driver's license
Experience working in remote, cold environments would be beneficial. Ironwork and structural steel building assembly experience would be an asset. Experience building commercial or industrial facilities is preferred but not required. Prior completion of accredited OSHA training courses and first aid training would be a plus!
YOUR SCHEDULE AS AN ARCTIC CONSTRUCTION FOREMAN
Deployments vary in length and usually occur between April through September. This seasonal skilled trade position works 54-hour weeks, Monday - Saturday. The schedule can vary based on weather conditions, and work requirements.

Serco is supporting USACE to renovate the Power Building (J-Plant) and providing it with High Altitude Electro Magnetic Pulse (HEMP) protective measures.The Logistician's primary role is to provide on-site receiving and accountability of construction materials and equipment. Tasks included inventory control, tool management, and hazardous material control and management. Additional duties include assisting Travel personnel with housing arrangements for arriving workforce personnel, meal card management, and return flight arrangements.
**This position is contingent upon your ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance**
**ROTATIONAL SCHEDULE:** **_This is a year-round position; current rotation is 3 months on and 1 month away from the site_**
**In this role, you will:**
+ Provide on-site shipping and receiving materials and construction equipment.
+ Provide on-site inventory control and management of all SERCO assets.
+ Provide on-site tools management.
+ Provide on-site hazardous material inventory, control and overall management.
+ Provide on-site flammable storage inventory and control of all flammable materials and liquids.
+ Assist the SERCO travel office with housing arrangements for arriving workforce personnel, to include meal card distribution, room preparation prior to arrival, and return flight coordination.
+ Maintain inventory status in Serco's warehouse management software suite.
+ Initiate purchase requests for site supplies and misc. materials.
+ Proactively resolve material and logistical problems or issues with the Serco management team and other subcontractors.
+ Work with Serco's vehicle supplier to coordinate vehicle use and transport of personnel to and from the site.
+ Coordinate shipping plans and documentation with other Serco warehouse sites as necessary.
+ Track and report large purchase order status as necessary with support from Serco's purchasing group.
+ Be present at the work site, attend and report weekly plan updates as it pertains to logistic, hazardous material or flammable container issues.
+ The logistician typically reports to the Site Superintendent or Project Manager.
**To be successful in this role, you will have:**
+ **Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance**
+ **U.S Citizenship required**
+ Ability to travel over 90% of the time
+ Valid U.S Passport required (more than 6 months from expiration date)
+ A High School diploma and technical training in construction or technical field
+ A minimum of five (5) years of experience in warehouse operations, or construction and construction related projects

+ Experience with CostPoint inventory software, or similar applications
+ Excellent customer service, communication, conflict resolution, presentation, and construction documentation comprehension skills

+ Previous experience working at Pituffik Space Base or other overseas remote locations
+ Ability to speak Danish

What You'll Do
Key Responsibilities:
Pre-Construction Planning
Contribute to Strategic Planning: Actively participate in Job Estimate Turnover Meetings to gain a comprehensive understanding of project objectives and requirements. Work closely with BIM professionals to assist in project layouts, establish efficient means and methods, and optimize project execution strategies.
Develop Project Teams: Create and organize Integrated Project Teams (IPT) and establish Control Take-Off plans, ensuring all team members are aligned and prepared for project success.
Optimize Site Logistics: Review and develop comprehensive site logistics plans to streamline material flow, equipment usage, and workforce coordination. Plan and implement temporary power and lighting setups to support safe and efficient work environments throughout the project lifecycle.
Allocate Resources Effectively: Determine appropriate staffing for the scope of the project, ensuring optimal resource utilization and accountability.
Prioritize Safety Compliance: Review and refine the Project Master Safety Plan, ensuring all teams are prepared and all work aligns with safety standards and best practices. Oversee and enforce all on-site safety practices, fostering a culture of safety-first and compliance with industry standards.
Construction Execution
Strategic Scheduling: Develop and manage a 3 week look-ahead schedule, ensuring smooth project progression and proactive problem-solving.
Scope Allocation & Leadership: Assign clear scopes of work and responsibilities to Foremen, empowering them to lead their crews with confidence and precision.
Material Management: Ensure Foremen have accurate and up-to-date project documentation, plans, and information to maintain alignment across teams. Verify Foremen have the necessary tools, materials, and resources to execute tasks efficiently and effectively.
Project Oversight: Supervise the creation of as-built drawings, panel schedules, and project updates to ensure accurate and timely records, and assist in developing and resolving RFIs (Requests for Information) to address project challenges promptly.
Performance Tracking: Monitor production metrics, maintain daily reports, and verify timesheets to ensure accountability and accurate project tracking.
Quality Assurance: Provide consistent quality control by coordinating inspections with AHJs (Authorities Having Jurisdiction) and ensuring work meets or exceeds standards.
Project Closeout Responsibilities
As-Built Turnover: Ensure the accurate turnover of as-built drawings and panel schedules to the supervisor for final documentation.
Contractual Compliance: Verify that all contractual requirements are completed in full, meeting project specifications and quality standards.
Vendor Coordination: Schedule and confirm all vendor start-ups to ensure proper equipment operation and commissioning.
Tool Management: Oversee the transfer of tools and equipment back to the shop, ensuring accountability and proper storage.
Owner Stock: Verify that all owner stock is accounted for and appropriately transmitted to the general contractor (GC) or owner.
Closeout Collaboration: Actively participate in project closeout meetings to address any remaining issues, ensure proper handover, and facilitate lessons learned for future projects.

Working Conditions:
The majority of the time you will work on construction job sites. When on construction job sites you will encounter typical construction conditions including extreme temperatures, noise, dust, mud debris, welding, leading edge, trenching, and shoring, sometimes in a confined space.
