Our City Forester position is ideal for professionals with an educational background in forestry, horticulture, arboriculture, environmental studies, conservation or related disciplines and with experience in these fields and line of work. Duties:
Responds to requests for shade tree services from the public and makes field inspections regarding the same.Organizes and prioritizes work by type, geographics, season etc. and submits to the superintendent of public works.Performs grading inspections as they relate to the preservation or destruction of trees on private land.Performs tree removal inspections on private property and enforces Tree Preservation Ordinance Chapter 11.Assists Public Works, Zoning, Health and the Police Officials in the enforcement of the Sidewalk Ordinance, Visibility Ordnance, Dead and dying trees, obnoxious growth or hazards.Conducts an annual hazardous tree survey of all Township trees in the Township right-of-way, public property and parks.Prepares tree removal, tree pruning, tree planning and other bid specifications and quotations as required and assists the Superintendent of Public Works in preparing fact sheets, resolutions, certificates of funding, purchase orders, etc. regarding the same..Prepares a Community Forestry Management Plan every 5 years and facilitates its implantation..Applies for applicable tree related grants.Prepares and annual accomplishment report and submits to State.Prepares annual Tree City, USA application Organizes and facilitates annual Arbor Day Celebration in conjunction with the Shade Tree Advisory Board.Attends all Shade Tree Advisory Board meetings.Oversees Township Beautification League and Garden Club projects on Township Property and right-of-way.Reviews Planning Board and Zoning Board of Adjustment Plans for conformance with landscape zoning.Monitors all line clearance pruning within Township right-of-way.Maintains and revises Township Street Tree inventory..

Assign and recommend industry accepted management practices to provide corrective control of non-compatible vegetation conditions in utility rights of way to vegetation control contractors; inspect ongoing and completed assignments to assure contract compliance to reduce preventable vegetation interruptions of service and to provide, as much as practical, access to facilities for the purpose of repair and inspection.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS are listed below:

1) After training, patrol lines and facilities to assess vegetative conditions and recommend utility vegetation operations, maintain records of work and make the necessary arrangements with landowners for vegetation management and access to facilities.

2) Investigate and resolve landowner issues and concerns.

3) With assistance, estimate vegetation management requirements and costs for construction and rebuilding of new and existing facilities.

4) With assistance, determine future utility vegetation management requirements and recommend short and long-term vegetation management work plans and best management practices.

5) Contact governmental agencies, other utilities, landowners and others to arrange and coordinate right-of-way vegetation management work plans required.

6) Inspect vegetation management and work planning contractors for contract compliance, recommending acceptance or corrective action.

7) With assistance, recommend work plans, priorities, schedules and contractor requirements in accordance with the vegetation management program.

8) Apply and keep informed of current contract provisions.

9) Maintain records and prepare reports on costs, production and work quality. Operate the forestry computer programs and records systems.

10) Guide and train others involved with the vegetation management program in proper work practices and utility vegetation management procedures.
Requirements
Utility Forester Associate BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:


Bachelor Degree in Forestry, Urban Forestry, Natural Resource Management, Arboriculture, or a related field and two (2) years of experience as a contract utility forester desired, OR Associate's degree in one of the same fields and four (4) years experience in utility vegetation management industry, OR High school diploma and six (6) years as a contract forester or other related positions in the utility industry


Utility Forester BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:


Bachelor Degree in Forestry, Urban Forestry, Natural Resource Management, Arboriculture, or a related field and three (3) years of experience in utility vegetation management industry, OR Associate's degree in one of the same fields and five (5) years experience in utility vegetation management industry, OR High school diploma and seven (7) years as a contract forester or other related positions in the utility industry


License & Certificates:
Knowledge and safe use of pesticides required. Arborist certification desirable. Possession of Certified Pesticide Applicator's license desirable.


OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Must act as a professional, employing a great deal of diplomacy to "sell" the Company's necessary vegetation control projects to the public. Courses in horticulture and/or vegetation management desirable. Competency in GIS systems and Microsoft Office components such as: Access, Excel, PowerPoint and Word in addition to other analytical tools is required Extensive travel is required to inspect and plan for the Company's right-of-way maintenance program.
