What Does A Forestry Technician Do At Bureau of Land Management

* This position requires a special qualification that has been determined to be essential to perform the duties and will be used as a screen out element.
* Those who do not provide evidence they possess the following selective factor(s) will be rated not qualified.
* Selective Placement Factor #1**:This position is a Primary Firefighter position and is subject to a maximum entry age (MEA).
* The MEA is the date immediately preceding your 37th birthday.
* Applicants must not have reached age 37 at the time of appointment, unless proof is provided of prior Federal service in another primary covered position, or you are a preference eligible veteran.

* cruised timber; noted compliance with rules and regulations on parking, campfire, sanitation, use of picnic sites, or hunting and fishing; maintained and cleaned up recreation/wilderness areas; performed standard fire prevention, dispatch, or lookout duties; or performed various standard duties related to silviculture activities.

* Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS
* grade level; OR a bachelor's degree or 4 years of successfully completed education above high school (120 semester/180 quarter hours) with major study in forestry, range management, agriculture, or a subject-matter field directly related to the position, or that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as forestry, agriculture, crop or plant science, range management or conservation, wildlife management, watershed management, soil science, natural resources, outdoor recreation management, civil or forest engineering, or wildland fire science (no more than 6 semester hours in mathematics is creditable); OR combinations of successfully completed post-high school education (in excess of the first 60 semester/90 quarter hours) and specialized experience.

What Does A Forestry Technician Do At Department of Natural Resources & Conservation

* This position serves as a Forest Technician in the Southwestern Land Office of the Trust Lands Division in the Department of Natural Resources and Conservation.
* The incumbent participates in a variety of forest management and forest improvement projects, and may be assigned to any of the four SWLO Unit offices.
* Typical projects and activities include timber cruising and other timber sale preparation, data collection, traversing and surveying proposed roadways, marking locations for various purposes, thinning set-up, prescribed burns, contract administration and various other projects as needed.
* The position reports to the Area Silviculturist and does not directly supervise other agency

* Leading and directing engine operations;
* Distributing, balancing, and keeping in touch with the status of work, making adjustments where necessary;
* Providing training and guidance;
* Personally engaging in fighting range, forest, or other wildland fires;
* Serving as Initial Attack Incident Commander on wildland fires, and;
* Providing fire and safety training, and equipment support as needed

* Plans the work to be accomplished by the unit, assigns work to employees, and establishes production or quality standards for the unit’s work.
* Establishes and communicates guidelines and performance requirements to employees; conducts formal performance reviews; and identifies and provides for the developmental and training needs of employees.
* Hears and resolves employee complaints, effects minor disciplinary measures, and recommends action in more serious cases.
* Performs administrative and human resources management functions for the unit; provides advice, counsel or instruction on both administrative and work matters; and assures full compliance with safety regulations.
